I really would like to discontinue the romantic relationship, but want to do it with the least amount of hurt to her as possible.

Tell her the truth - why you guys can't be together anymore, it might hurt but girls like to have a closure....but then again, if it's too hurtful then just tell her that you guys are not compatible for each other and that you'd love to see both of you happy.....I don't know, just take it from here...'hope it helps..
