My sister moved to Chicago last year and when I went to visit her, we decided to try the famous Chicago pizza. SO we searched around downtown area, and we saw a few....Uno's was too difficult to park at, so we tried Gino's East. It was really nasty on the inside, with grafitti on the walls, which were deteriorating. It was so gross in our booth that we asked to move. They stuck us in the back room where it looked very 80's, and a very amateur building job. As far as the taste of the pizza? We wondered why the famous Chicago pizza was so gross???? The crust tasted like cornmeal??? Or was it yeast? Or what? We couldnt identify it, but we ate it anyway (the topping mostly). The leftovers.....the waitress asked us if we wanted to take it home. We laughed and said "uhhhh, NO!". We are glad we tried it, but honestly, it was gross. We will try some other place next time I visit.

oOOooo i live right by Aurelio's in downtown Chicago...since someone said they have good pizza, I might as well go check it out!
But ya, to answer the question, I don't think GIno's East is the best, it's okay; so is Lou Malnati's. I think some of the best pizza in Chicago comes from those small diners in Little Italy on Taylor St right by UIC, or random places in downtown. It really depends on your taste though.

If you like thin crust, Piece on North Avenue just east of the Damen/North/Milwuakee intersection is a great choice. However, it's a huge tourist trap, mainly b/c the cast from the Real World worked there. http://metromix.chicagotribune.com/dining/42253,0,7639173.venue
Bricks Pizza is pretty good also for Chicago Thin crust: http://metromix.chicagotribune.com/dining/30359,0,7377033.venue
But if you want REAL Chicago style, Deep dish is the way to go - Gino's East or Giordianos.

this is a trick question. There is no good pizza in Chicago. I lived there for 4 years while going to college and that Chicago style deep dish pizza is awful. People from Chicago will give you a bunch of answerer's here about this but do not be fooled. Chicagoans, bless their hearts, do not know any better.

The best pizza in the Chicagoland area is made at Aurelio's Pizza. Try any of your favorite combinations on their wonderful thin crust pizza dough.
For the original, journey out to Homewood, Illinois and visit their location at 18162 Harwood Avenue.
Tell em Joe sent ya!

When I was in Chicago we asked the same question to the hotel receptionist and she said she would recommend Gino's and Giordano's. We've eaten at both places and they have really good pizza.

Go to the original Connie's on Archer Avenue, the suburban locations are NOT the same. Giordano's is a close second.
