MY TV IS NOT OLD, IVE HAD IT FOR LESS THAN TWO YEARS. TWO DAYS AGO A BLACK RECTANGLE APPEARED ON THE TV SCREEN NOT ALLOWING US TO SEE THE ENTIRE PICTURE. IT TAKES UP ABOUT 1/4 OF THE ENTIRE SCREEN. IT WILL NOT GO AWAY UNLESS YOU CHANGE THE CHANNEL AND THEN WITHIN A FEW SECONDS IT COMES BACK, ALWAYS IN THE SAME SPOT. IVE NOT MADE ANY CHANGES. WE HAVE DIRECT TV AND ITS NOT HAPPENING TO OTHER TVS IN THE HOUSE. WHATS THE CAUSE, IS IT WORTH PUTTING IN THE SHOP OR IS IT TOO BIG OF A PROBLEM OR TOO EXPENSIVE TO FIX? I HATE TO THROW IT AWAY, ITS THE LARGEST TV I OWN.

With our tv remote, we bring up menu, and in menu go to picture, move sideways, go to size, and that brings up Zoom 1, Zoom 2, 16:9, Wide Fit, and 4:3...Try clicking them all, and one of them will make your picture fit the screen...We have a SAMSUNG TV...If this helps, let me know...
Have a good day now...

see if it's still under warranty and if it's not make a big fuss about this to the dealership or the manufacturer until they replace it for you...sounds like a big issue since all tv's now are built with computer chip components...sounds like its a defect they will not be able to fix...you have to get it replaced...good luck
