I am about to buy one and am wondering if I can install windows media player

Contrary to popular belief, Microsoft DOES have windows media player for the mac. You can download the OFFICIAL copy right here:

The only question is if its compatible with the mac os you are using. I do know that it is compatible with os x and os 9, but I don't know about others.

no it doesn't. WMP is a microsoft program, and the iBook is an Apple product - they are in competition with each other so MS software won't (generally) work on an Apple.

i'd recommend getting the Mac anyway and just using iTunes - i find it vastly better than WMP ever was for me

No. Its a MAC not a PC that runs windows. There is a MAC program built in that will play media.

Nope, that is something that comes with a Windows brand. Apple doesn't have that, but you can download itunes!
