We have three large cats (18-24pounds) and am looking for a powerful self cleaning litter box so we don't have to scoop the litter box 4-5 times a day.

Sue F.- my cats are just all-american cats. They were all adopted, I have no idea what breed they are but they aren't Maine Coon- they're just big! All 3 of them are tall and long. CJ is 18 lbs, ORyan is 22 lbs and Sam is 25 lbs. Needless to say they are all on diets, but its not working well. We used to have a Jack Russell terrier and CJ was bigger than she was!!

Wow, they are big cats...are they Maine Coon cats? I have 4 cats of varying sizes and a dog. I have used a couple of Littermaid self cleaning boxes before, but the motors have given out within a year or so, and they were not the most easy to dismantle for a through cleaning...you still will have to do a "big clean" yourself possibly once a week or so; because even though you are using a self cleaning box, cats generally like a clean fresh smell and fresh litter, and the dirty litter box scent can still occur. The brand that I have switched to now is Purrforma by Pet mate. I purchased mine in a local pet store. It was close to $180.00, but I have found it to be worth every penny. If you are not sure where to purchase them in your area the website is www.petmate.com.and their phone number is 1-877-PETMATE. It is an enclosed pan, and as you probably know all cats like their privacy when they are going to the bathroom. They don't, however seem to understand that we humans can sometimes like our privacy, also...ha,ha...just a thought! I have found this product to be great, quieter than the other ones I have tried, and so far the motor has outlived both of the other brand. Good luck to you and enjoy those big kittys!!! you are positive they are not dogs...right?!??? My Pom is only 10 pounds, she would think that they are her big brothers or sisters...

i have two cats and the one we use is called Litter Maid Mega. 20 minutes after the cats leave the litter box, it sweeps the yucky stuff into a little plastic container at the front of it...and we just replace the little plastic container every so often, and add more litter to the tray. we hardly ever have to actually clean the entire box.

ps - i have found that the best litter is Tidy Cats Scoop - Multiple Cats.

good luck!!

We have the littermaid Mega for four cats and it works great. We empty the receptacle every other day. You can dump the receptacle and reuse. Its a lot better than bending over the litterbox sifting for treasure. I like to take the receptacle, dump it, spray with Lysol and you're done.

NONE!!!!! THEY ALL ARE CRAP!!!!!!!! I HAVE TWO CATS (15LB FEMALE & 7LB MALE). I HAVE A LARGE OVERSIZED COVERED REGULAR LITTERBOX FILLED WITH FRESH STEP. MY CATS DO JUST FINE. BOTTOM LINE, IF YOU CHOOSE TO HAVE CATS, THEN YOU HAVE TO SCOOP!!!!! OH, AND PERSONALLY, IF I BOUGHT ONE OF THOSE SELF CLEANING LITTER BOXES, I DON'T THINK MY FEMALE CAT WOULD USE IT. BUT THAT'S JUST HER, SHE'S VERY VERY PICKY!!!!! ^-^ GOOD LUCK THOUGH!!!!!!
