I've stayed in Kodiak only for a few days of work at a time over the years.

There's something about being off the road system that 1) attracts even more weirdos and 2) can make you feel trapped. Maybe that's just me, but being able to drive to the "United States" in 2 days is nice to have as option, even though I never have (except for planned trips, auto purchases, etc).

Only female on a boat? Jeez. The stories I hear about working the slime line in town are bad enough - always getting hit on.

I know two women who worked at a remote cannery. Major big hassles. Really strong women and they didn't feel like either would have made it on their own. Not just mental health, but physical safety, too.
