biasing resistor R 1 is for determine input voltage level.

othervise we can say that R1 is pull up resistor because it pull up the voltage level of input

respectively R2 (connected between base and gnd) is a pull down resistor.

yessir, "yazk" is describing a "voltage ladder" i believe to bring about the proper voltage potential to operate ur semiconductor
