In Judaism it is rather simple; G-d said not to, end of story.

As for pork goes in the Islamic communities. I believed it dates back to Ancient Egypt. Before food had codes and standards for preparing, storing and cooking meats, some problems came. Pork has lots of worms in them and other things. If you were to pour some coke on a slab of pork meat... wait a few minutes and you'll see the worms coming out. If you don't cook the meat properly, all the worms will not die and become infectious and deadly to you. So when the meat was cooked in Ancient Egypt, it was not cooked all the way. So when a family member died right after eating such an animal, it became an evil sinning thing. If a family member very close to you died from eating an item, it would scar you to never touch it again in fear that you could die as well. Therefore over the years it adopted to a custom of not eating pork and then became a religious thing as well. Not eating pork is stated in the bible, not just the qu'ran. sorry for the misspellings.

Some don't eat cow because they think it's sacred.
Some (like SDA's) won't eat cow because of the Mad Cow Disease going around; they also won't eat deer too because of the diseases going around.

Jews and some christians don't eat pig or the unclean animals because they're scavengers; the one's that eat the left-overs, slop, etc.

Well thats an easy one.....with Moslems they dont eat pork. Pork goes off easily in hot humid countries and you can also get a tape worm from eating it. As they did not have fridges in those days the only thing was to avoid it. Hindus dont eat cow because they feel that it is useful and call it their "mother" because you can use every part of the cow for some reason or other...e.g milk, to make yoghurt and cheese, skn to make leather urine for medicine. etc. the majority of Hindus are vegetarians anyway and do not lke the slaughter of animals.Catholics dont like to eat meat on Fridays because that is the day Christ was crucified.

The religious prohibitions against certain meats in the Bible did not give clear reasons for their purpose. It is proposed by some that those foods had greater risks associated with them (at least at the time the prohibitions were made). The restrictions may have therefore given the nation of Israel a competitive advantage over its competitors.

The most sensible, non-religious explanation I heard was given to me by a Jewish Rabbi who said that prohibitions against eating certain meats/foods was because they went 'off' quickly in hot climates. If so they are not 'religious' fancies just sensible precautions against food poisoning.

Did you know that pork has to go through two stages of freezing before its processed and shipped?
There is a parasite that lives in pork that causes sickness and sometimes death.
Back when the Old Testament was written, nobody had freezers!
This is why they called it unclean.
It was simply a rule put in place to try keep people from getting sick and dying.

For some its cause they think thats what the Scriptures say, but they fail to read in Timothy where its ok. We have friends who are 7th Day Adventus. They claim what God said in the Old Test. We took them to the New Test and still would not see what God said. But in long run they eat healthier than we who do eat pork.

The real reason why jews don't eat certain food (e.g. pork) is b/c G-d said so. That simple.
There are philosophical reasons people have proposed which may have some truth, but the bottomline is that its simply what G-d said.
(The idea that we don't eat certain food b/c of health reasons, however, is rather idiotic, imho.)

Because religion asked them not to eat certain type of meat. Even if we exclude relegious aspect, culturally there are people who will/will not eat different meat.

Some Religions don't eat Beef because the cow is seen as sacred.
With Pork it's beacuse the pig is seen as a dirty animal.
