There are so many Nigerian scammers on the dating sites, but you really would need to have a brain the size of a pea in order to fall for that stuff. The scammers are very easy to spot, and when they respond you just ignore them.
I have used online dating sites, and there really is a mix of people out there. Some are sincere, some are liars. Some post real photos, some post fake.
Use common sense.
There are billions of photos available on the internet. Of course there is always a chance that someone could take your photo and misuse it, but the odds of that happening are so small that I really would not worry about it.

If the old addage goes "believe half of what you see and none of what you hear", I don't know what percentage would apply to internet dating websites, but I would be willing to wager the number of people actually telling anything close to the truth would be very very low. Much like putting your best foot forward in public, these sites provide a place to put your best "fantasy" forward and see who bites. I imagine there is a lot of disappointment if and when any of these parties actually meet, one would hope the truth would out. I suspect that a great number of people in chat rooms and on dating websites are actually very young and potentially putting themselves in harms way in a manner unthinkable a few years ago. They need to be reminded of how false and actually dangerous this can be and one would hope they have a good enough support system in their lives that if something should occur, they have someone to turn to.

They are posting their pics not directions to their home....I think alot of whats said on such websites can put some persons men & women at risk for being so suggestive and inviting...but pictures are just a face that goes along with their stories.

Most of the time it's fakes. If we've been chatting for a year or so then you can expect to see a real picture. But we woman are not so trusting at all, it's a cruel world and you never know what to expect, so we rely on technology to help us lie.

I HAVE A FRIEND THAT FOUND A MAN ON YAHOO PERSONALS ABOUT 3 YEARS AGO, THEY ARE NOW MARRIED. SHE DIDN'T POST HER PICTURE. SHE JUST MET HIM AT A RESTAURANT. SHE SPOKE TO HIM ON THE PHONE FOR 4 MONTHS AND ON THE COMPUTER BEFORE SHE EVEN MET HIM AT THE RESTAURANT. THEY BOTH JUST FOUND EACH OTHER, NEITHER OF THEM HAD ANYONE ELSE THEY WERE TALKING TO. THEY WERE EACH OTHERS FIRST AND ONLY ON THE PERSONALS SIGHT. IT WAS REALLY SWEET HOW IT ALL CAME ABOUT.

Personally, from my view point it is too risky. I would not post my real life picture. Somone could use it for something else. They could put your head on someone else's body or something! too scary!
