depends on how bad the situation is. Flea collars worked for my minor flea problem, but sometimes you have to get the house bombed and your cat a flea dip. Also they have great new products like advantage that keep the fleas away.

Get either Advantage or Frontline Flea treatment; you apply it once a month and those 2 products really work. You will not see another flea.

You can buy it from your vet or order online; usually it is cheaper if you order it off the web.

Is your house infested? you will need to buy a flea bomb.. if its on your pet, bathe it with warm water using a flea shampoo or you could use a mild dish soap, make a think lether of soap on the pet and let it soak in it for 2 mins or longer if you can and then rinse it off.. you can always by advantage or frontline just as a precausion to kill any new comming pests or to kill the ones that didnt die.

they wont go away by just treating the cat - you will also have to treat all your carpets, curtains and bedding (preferrably wash the bedding that could be infected). this way you can be sure they've gone. repeat this a couple of times to make sure, and keep up the cat treatment regularly.
