Mind the fact Japan had access to Atomic theory from Germany at the close of the war. A Jap Submarine was sunk that was carrying heavy water and up to the point they also had documentation on Atomic theory. In desperation would have Japan used the A-Bomb on us? I say, "YES!"

The physicist heading the Japanese equivalent of the Manhattan project spoke before dying beginning of the 1980s. Right after the bombing of Hiroshima he was asked by the military. Can you make an a-bomb in 6 months ? He answered yes so Japan did not surrender. Three days after, Nagasaki was bombed. Then the Japanese surrendered.

I fear they probably would have done.

Japan was desperate to find a way of striking at the American West Coast, which was outside the range of their ships and aircraft. For instance, they had a scheme to float across minature incedniary devices on balloons. If the Japanese had been given the German secrets, delivering the bomb would have been as much of a problem as making it, but a submarine might have made a sneak attack.

A Japanese bomb might well have been a "dirty bomb" spreading radioactive dust by a conventional explosion, rather than a true nuclear bomb such as those at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. By the end of the War the Germans could build a reactor, but they had been misled about the amount of uranium needed for an explosion: they thought this was more that could be made into a bomb of the time. This misunderstanding, by Heisenberg, is the subject of Michael Frayn's play "Copenhagen".

At the time the US dropped bombs on Nagasaki and Hiroshima, the Japanese were on the final stages of developing their own bomb. They had plans of dropping this bomb on San Francisco. This information became available recently. Up until this time it was considered classified information. This story was revealed on the cable History channel, sometime back.

Considering how they tortured and murdered (and some even ate!) their prisoners, and the systematic rape and murder of Chinese and Koreans, why would anybody harbor any doubts that they would have used atomic weapons against the US? They had no squeamishness over killing people for their bullshit bushido machismo.

Without a doubt they would have used it on us. They certainly had no qualms about attacking us at Pearl Harbor, the same would have applied to the A-Bomb, they would not have hesitated to bomb the crap out of us.

I say "YES! YES!". In view of the widespread atrocities committed by Japanese troops in Asia, I have little doubt about your question.

If they had it then, Hawaii would be mushroom. No doubt whatsoever.

I think they were still very far away from one, but they were cornered, so I would guess they'ld have used it.
