Male cats often 'spray' the walls, to mark their territory. Try washing your walls. You may need to re-paint if that doesn't help. I know pet stores sell solutions that will target cat urine odors, you may want to go there for some solution.
Use a black light- cat urine glows with it. That will help you find it.
You can pick one up in a hardware store for little cost.

If you know the spots where it is coming from, you can clean with a 50/50 solution of original Listerine and water. It sounds as though ou did the best thing by ripping out the carpets, so maybe you have to call in the professionals. Didn't you notice it before you bought the house?

The best thing you can do is replace the carpet. Cat urine is SO strong that it is really difficult to get rid of. The only thing I've used that comes close is a product call Natures Miracle.

Had the same problem, and did the same thing. It took about 2 years until we stopped smelling cat. It helped covering the smell with a new dog smell.

wow... you might never get rid of the cat smell if the owners had the cat for a long time and specially if the cat orinated on any wood surface... like walls and floor even if you sand it down it wont help. You could try proffessionals but I really doubt it could help.

you can get stuff at a pet store that eliminates cat urine, if thats the problem. its made to cover the stench so that cats dont keep using your carpet instead of the litter box. but the problem is you have to know where the odor/stain is, so that you can pour the solution on it. if you know where the stench is coming from, then this stuff will work, if not, ask a vet.

I think it would be well worth the money to get a professional cleaning service to deal with the problem. Who knows all the nooks and cranies the cat(s) could have reached? You could easily spend more time and money without solving the problem all by yourself.

Odoban available at Sam's Club seems to do a pretty good job. You can use it in laundry or water it down to use in spray bottles or in a bucket with a sponge.

profesionals, i'd spring for the money, if you've already gotten rid of the carpets not really too much you can do now, unless you burn lots of incense and candles 24/7
