This was a very friendly lab that my son had been around numerous times. He recently had braces put on his teeth and was attacked by this dog and suffered a severe bite requiring the expertise of a plastic surgeon. I'm wondering if this has happend to anyone else??

The braces might have somehow startled the dog. It's hard to know. I do know that my dogs sometimes react to something new. They became afraid of a friend of mine when he wore a hat. Once he took off the hat, they were fine again.

I don't think the dog needs to be put down, but I do think he should be monitored around children.

Dogs will sometimes react badly to men with beards or hats or umbrellas, if they haven't been socialized around them. In my opinion, there is usually no excuse for a dog biting someone they know well - whether or not he had braces. If it were my dog, I would have it put to sleep. If it were one of my client's dogs, I would give them the same advice.

Dogs take the showing of teeth to be a sign of aggression,it might not have had anything to do with the braces.

i had a simular experance with my uncles dog. i had long hair then and if it was tied up the dog was fine with me but if i had my hair down it would try to attack me (it never managed got close enough to bite me some one allways stoped it) so we came to the conclution that its priveous owner may of misstreated it. (she had long hair and thats why is only went for me if my hair was down.)

the dog may of been frightened of the braces or the person who breed it may of had braces and misstreated it.

That dog needs to be put down (no offence intended).
