You can get over-curvature of the nails which usually also has ribbing along the length of the nail and the nail becomes brittle. This may be due to a fungal infection. Your Dr. can prescribe suitable treatment after sending off a sample of the nail for tests.

Yes there is. Its the same principle as a toe nail. The nail grows incorrectly into the nail bed. This causes pain and infections. The nail may have to be removed if the symptoms persist.
