Would they win elections?
What laws would get passed?
How scared would the 2 main parties get?

It would change everything. No longer would the two main parties be able to use taxes or social services to win votes.

The minimum wage would be increased so that people can feed their kids, and laws would change so that businesses must take care of their employees with things like health care and retirement, maybe even daycare.

Since there are many more poor people in the US, I don't think it's a stretch of the imagination to believe that it could actually happen. They would definitely win elections, and the other parties would be scrambling to figure out how to be "centrist" when there are now 3 parties.

Excellent question. Made my brain work this morning.

the problem is that this country is firmly rooted in a two-party system in which third parties have difficulty competing, based on the rules established by the 2 dominant parties. The likelihood of winning a major election is small as elections cost a tremendous amount of money and this 'poor-party' would not meet the criteria to get federal funding. The only way laws would get passed on behalf of the impoverished is if they garnered a majority in the House or Senate, again not likely. The two main parties are very confident as they dictate the rules of the electoral system in regards to party politics. If the poor united, they would have greater power by joining and changing one of the two major parties. The problem with politics today is that people no longer participate in healthy debates and even more frightening people no longer vote, the single greatest right Americans have. So maybe the poor will unite and vote, no one else does.

Good question, ty. I have also often wondered about this. The problem is money talks. The two parties have far too much money to even get close to forming another party. The green party proves that true. Most are poor or working class but they are excluded from most debates. A better way to bring down the Sat-us queue in America is to strike. It worked in the days of Women's suffrage, slavery and new Unions.. It also worked in South Africa to end Apart-ii there. It will work in America also. Money or lack of Money makes it easy to strike, just stop spending it wrong.
I never buy from Republicans, it takes work but for me I only buy from Democrats.
Justhonest, what a real Idiot you are. Bill Gates is a Democrat and if he wanted to be President he would be now. Only a fool like you would not know that. Many Democrats are very wealthy, look at Hillary and Bill Clinton, your hatred for them has made them so much cash Hillary and Bill can buy any office they want now.

Very good question! I don't know if they coudl win because they would not have the money to get their word out to the voting people but on the other hand they are the voting people. It would kind of scare me about the laws they might pass, but I think it would definetly scare the beegeepers out of the 2 main parties here in the states.

Yes, the Communist Party in the United States would received 5 percent of the vote instead of 1 percent. Under normal circumstances, they would do even better but the "Poor Party" can't afford TV, Radio, Print, or Internet Media, billboards, pamphlets, bumper stickers, street money, or buses to take their people to the polls. Additionally, it is generally difficult for people of this party to remember when election day takes place and to wake up and get moving each day.

hell no, example, Tony blair of the brittish labor party.
They'd win elections if they could create the proper buzz and had the right people.
I couldnt tell you what kind of laws they might pass on because it really depends on the personal preferences of the people involved.
Hard to say if the two main parties would take something like that seriously unless they had a way of consistently sweeping elections on all levels.

because we already have our political social gathering ... THE LABOUR social gathering... and how a lot of human beings ought to vote for this NEW social gathering at the same time as a lot fuss is been made from the links to the Labour social gathering. NO operating guy or lady ought to correctly be adversarial to a loose commerce union and if we had no commerce unions the artwork position ought to be hell on the earth with longer hours and a employ and hearth custom and poor wages.. if the unions had done what the Bankers had done the leaders ought to be in detention center and the union banned.

Yes. The effect would cause the republicans to win big. The new party would take most of its members from the dems and both would lose. The new party would have problems generating money and would get little other support.

The 2 main parties control the country. It takes lots of money to gain control from the main parties.Unless a lot of money was involved for the poor to organize a party it would never happen and they would never gain any control.
The rich have it and they are not going to give any of it away, unless of course it benefits them in some way.

They'll form a coalition obviously the 2 main parties will have something to take care of before anything else. They'll probably lower their taxes and all.

I am sure that we would win elections if they were hand counted. You are forgetting that in the technology age we are in it is very easy to tamper with the amount of votes someone gets.
