Thanks to all of you for these good, honest answers. From my own personal experience I know that there are brave people in every race - I repeat, every race and nation. However, there can be no doubt that it was the Japs who outshone everyone else in WW2 - and please don't give me the tired old bullshit about brainwashing. How many people know the amazing story of the Japanese American Battalion in France in WW2? They showed a heroism unmatched by any other troops, Axis or Allied.

In World War II, all sides had brave troops. Many soldiers were incredibly heroic, but if I'm forced to pick one side, I would have to go with Japan. The Japanese Troops would fight to the last man, no matter what with no surrender and no breaking. They would hold up the in jungles and rocks of the islands and dig in.

As a matter of fact, the projected death toll for the United States was so much, that the choice was made to drop the atomic bombs, greatly helping end WWII.

It might be the English or the Chinese. The French surrendered or ran away. The Japanese had suicidal banzai charges, but they had to get drunk first. The Russians were virtually allied with Germany and they also invaded Poland and Finland in WWII, but the common russian soldier charged the germans because their own officers would shoot them if they tried to run away, Hobson's Choice not bravery. The Americans were brave enough but almost always attacked with superior fire-power making bravery hard to gauge. The Germans were brave in their own way, but not brave enough to disobey orders that they should have considered illegal.

It's a toss-up between the UK, China and the US. China was being invaded so they really had no choice but to fight. UK declared war on Germany first and then sat on the border twiddling their thumbs instead of attacking during the "Phony War" then ran away at Dunkirk and fought bravely when they had no other choice. The Americans stayed out of it until Japan attacked, and responded massively despite knowing that neither Japan or Germany could really touch the Continental US. The Americans are the only ones who actually had a choice not to fight, so maybe they are the bravest.

Every countries soldiers in world war 2 ran into battle, but the Japanese were fanatical(brainwashed). The British had the bravest soldiers even a German officer said they were lions. He said the Germans would not go anywhere near a British soldier with a bayonet because the Brits are the best trained with A LOT of things especially with a bayonet.Every country had their brave soldiers but some countries are just more superior.Dont say America saved Britain, its childish to believe everything what you read. You must of got it out of a book or on the internet because its not true.

Many people think that anyone fighting in a war is brave. This isn't always the case. Soliders that are drafted are forced to go into war, and most of the soliders on all sides were of this type.

When you are told by your commanding officer to go into the heat of battle, bravery is the last thing on your mind.

If you kill a person, it's usually because it's you or them. The military tries to dehumanize the enemy, but they're just people like us. Scared, forced into a war they had nothing to do with and asked to kill a person exactly like they are. And you do it. Because they're the enemy.

Soldiers don't start wars. Politicians start wars. Soldiers have to carry out their orders in the field, at great danger to their life, while the politicians can relax in their plush offices.

Soldiers return from war (any war) changed. It's not brave to bomb a village that may or may not contain innocents, just because your commander tells you to. It's not brave to kill someone with a tank. But it's what you do, because you have to. And maybe, just maybe, doing all of these horrible things will end the war that much faster.

This was a long war with many battles that some won by the allies and other won by the axis. Each battle showed heroes and warlords.

The Japanese  they fought like there is no tomorrow
The Russians  they fought in the most drastic conditions with the Germans in the front and their own troops shooting whoever surrenders from the back.
The French  showed a great heroic spirit in resisting the Nazi invasion
The Germans  the fought the whole world under all conditions and on all battlefields, they won battles in few hours and conquered Europe in like what 2 years.

The Japanese were the best trained but they were brainwashed into taking orders unlike the west where you were trained and expected to do the orders.Britain had the best trained and the bravest soldiers in any war and a German officer from ww2 said if you give British soldiers and German officers and i could rule the world,he also said British soldiers were lions.

how can you compare 1 brave act to another? One brave person to another.

Personally i amazed at some of the things that Soviet soldiers/Army did; at one time the soldiers "parachuted" into German held areas - no parachutes. no joke. They knew the death rate would be astronomical and did it anyway.
Like D-Day, in a way.

FROM WIKIPEDIA
The total number of Soviet civilian and military World War II casualties remains uncertain. Stalin's original declaration in March 1946 that there were 7 million war dead was revised in 1956 by Nikita Khrushchev with a round number of 20 million. In the late 1980's, demographers in the State Statistics Committee (Goskomstat) took another look using demographic methods and came up with an estimate of 26-27 million.

Lots of people in many countries did VERY brave, impressive things, day after day - the US, Australia, England, Canada, and the USSR all have reasons to be proud of their people.

Given the fact that all the soldiers, sailors, Air Force and Marines of many countries united during WWII & fought Bravely for freedom and peace. I feel; it was the underground civilians that gave their lives to protect others and fight the evils of WWII, the unknown names and faces we never saw, The civilians that hid Jews not fearing for their own lives; because they knew it was the right thing to do. The underground civilians that blew up a bridge or the informants that aided the allies in the defeat of the evil cruelties of WWII...THESE beyond any efforts of any one country, played a vital role during the desperate times of WWII and were the BRAVEST among our nations! USA, France, England, Canada, Australia.....................

I hate this question.

All nations produced brave soldiers and that is the end of story of that.

Without exception (i am including France and Italy) I can make a sound, logical and fact based arguement supporting every country who took part in this war.

When you factor in enemy, environment, equipment etc etc, they all were brave.

Shame on anyone who answers differently.

I would have to say it was probably the japanese or the soviet union .
the japs because very often they would fight to the very last man .
The russians because it takes guts to run into the face of the enemy knowing that if you retreat you will be shot by your own officers .
The polish , because they were the last army to ever do a cavalry assault against armored vehicles
