Both civilisation were/are equally great.... both have quite a few and more or less the same number of inventions, discoveries and developments to their credit (ok actually a LOT...its nearly 17+centuries we're taking about here) China's culture is quite distinct and most importantly well preserved (compared to India-lots of reasons...The British...vandalism...etc...). I guess both civilisations are equal ancient... Both have great ancient wisdom and literature.China has better infrastructure now so you might find it more comfortable and easier to carry out your research there.
But then again...India has been the birth place for many religions and cultures..India has like a mixture of most cultures around the world. People used to migrated there from around the world..The indo-aryans, the persians, the Greeks, the Kushanas, the Shakas, the Hunas, the Arabs, the Turks, the Africans, the Mongols and so on....... It has been the Birth place of Hinduism (most ancient religion) Bhuddism,Jainism and many other religions... the Mughals, Afgans and Persian often raided there, and conquered and left a big influence of their religon, culture and way of life.
The ancient language of India Sanskrit is being increasingly researched in countries like Germany (there are Sanskrit radio stations in Berlin!). Apparently its perfect for computer programming and has its infulences in Greek and Latin and hence, English...
Both cultures are equally rich and distinct.... The choice is your ultimately... depends on what kind of research you want to do....

They both have interesting heritages, therefore let us look at simplicity. China invented paper money, gunpowder and the Great wall of China. They have a written history thousands of years old and have multiple dynastys rule in it's favor. However, let us look at the fine print. If this is a history of a civilization, your going to have a bundle and you probably won' learn too much. India is still mysterious, all most people know about India is the Kama Sutra, Bollywood, and that their Dad's job was just sent their. India is the home of Ghandi, Budha, the Taj Mahal. They are also the historical road for the asian route system from antiquity. Go with India it will be a lot more fun.

I would say China is greater now but India will be greater than China, India has a lot more potential. Free market economy, higher educated people, more personal freedom. China just has a lot of cheap labor right now, that is not really something you can build a great future on.

in the Asian Coalition that you recommend, how can Russia slot in? The Tripartite alliance between Russia, India, and China is a sturdy concept. It has no longer taken off. China is careful about India and the relations members has no longer blossomed as yet. the justifications aren't any further a techniques to seek. The undesirable memories of the Indo-China conflict of 1961 are nonetheless there and the major area of the dispute which delivered on the conflict stay unresolved and buried lower than the carpet. China look to have predilection for Pakistan and evaluate the latter as a counter balancing rigidity adversarial to India. If in any respect, the stated tripartite relations members ought to ought to emerge, it relies upon on 2 factors. Russia ought to convince China to actively woo India; Or Indo-Pak relations members ought to advance dramatically. i imagine both the opportunities are fairly distant.
