Actually there are FD to EOS mount adapters. I have one that I use my 600mm FD lens on. You will have to shoot in AV or manual mode, but you are use to using full manual anyway. I found one on eBay for you. Look for something like this.

I love my Canon Rebel digital camera and I can interchange all sorts of lenses on it, I have 2 extras that my husband bought me to go with it and both were made for regular 35mm cameras.

Do you mean AE1 ?
This camera has an FD lens mount, which is not compatible with any digital SLR camera. The newer Canon mount, which all of their dSLR cameras have, is called EF. There are no adapters.

A Canon 30D is a good choice.
