I do not recommend using Limewire or Kazza or P2P programs because they ALWAYS contain spyware / adware and I have repaired many computers because of the other programs they download in the background with out your knowledge. It's like opening a floodgate and they eventually clog your computer until it's useless.
I use bit torrent.
The speed is determined by not just you but the other users. They might have a slower speed, or there could be heavy traffic (your end or theirs) slowing it down.
Some times other users sending you files log off and your stuck waiting till the next day when they log on again.
There are so many possibilities.
I have had a few 700MB movies take over a Week to get it all, and some never finish because when the other person is done they stop sharing.
Hope this helps, and remember to share at least 200% or for one week which ever comes first to help others.
Always scan and file downloaded before opening.

www.shareaza.com
Note: many files on the p2p-networks include viri or other malware. What you can do is:
-Download the wanted files.
-WAIT for two weeks.
-Update your virus definitions, firewall, antispyware program and use www.windowsupdate.com.
-Use your downloaded files (being 14 days old).
Some media (like wmv) files can lead you (just by opening them!) to an obscure website. That website can use exploits (which MS doesn't yet have an answer to) to take over your PC or read your keyboard input (like passwords or creditcard info).
With Ctrl+alt+del, Taskmanager, Processes, you can lower the priority of shareaza.exe, so it won't clog up the CPU when doing other stuff.
When planning on downloading many files: your harddisk might have a relative (very) short life, it'll continuesly be very active! So DON'T put your documents, photo collection and the like, on the SAME harddisk (or, only put your backups on the same harddisk)!!! This means, you'll have to use at least two harddisks.
To give the p2p harddisk longer life, use good cooling, like harddisk coolers and casefans.
