We had a cockatoo named Elvis, 12 years old. He loved the outdoors hanging in his cage whisteling at the other birds. We found him dead yesterday. We had a hanging petunia beside his cage. Would eating the plant have caused his death?

YES

Most plants are toxic to birds.

My friends macaw died from eating a rose.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

If you do decide to get another cockatoo or bird in the future, the only flowers and plants that are safe for a bird to eat are ficus, bromeliads, Eucalpyus, Butterfly crane, Passion Flower, Dragon tree, Bougainvillea, Dracaena, jade plant, and Schefflera, and wild dandelions, make sure none of the plants were sprayed with pesticides, or grown in potting soil, organic or naturally occuring dirt is safe, and make sure that the plants werent sprayed with pesticides.

Although if your bird does eat too much of one plant it can make them sick or kill them. So always watch your birds. When their around plants.

i think of those Cockatoo's try to maintain those 2 ladies alive. They the two love the sound those birds are making and subsequently keep them alive. the girls conceal the cage up at evening so the cuckatoo's can sleep as a manner to be uncovered as quickly as returned to sing. They understand they wont stay long lots longer yet they gets to pay attention their coos from their caged cockatoo's. you may keep a song alive on your heart yet you cant loss of life. gorgeous poem.. and that i think of i examine this in step with probability 50 cases .
