...there are many ways of meditation. It sounds as though a quick fix will help you right now. First, turn off all phones (this is your moment, and there isn't anything more important right now than you and your moment.) Find a quiet room, and sit in a comfortable position, close your eyes, and focus on your breath. Breathing in, and breathing out. Notice any thoughts that pop up in your brain...and let them go as you exhale. That's it. Do this for 15 minutes for beginners. You might want to look for a group that does meditation (for continued support.) Vipassna meditation is one way. Yoga Nidra is another. There are many CD's out there. This is my favorite Yoga Nidra CD...check it out:

Good luck!

For quickest way, you can buy brain wave cd of delta wave, or ask cd counter just for Meditation cd with special delta wave. And follow instruction inside. it works well.

I preffer to do by my self. You should prepare:
1. At least 3 hours after meal
2. Wear not so tight clothes
3. Find a silent place. switch the light to be not too bright.
4.Give the message to your mind that you want to meditate
5. Ask god to help you avoiding bad energy that might comes to you
6. If you want an aroma in your room, get an aromatic oil, or burn incense stick. I usually use Sandalwood aromatic oil. Dont use to much.
7. If you want to hear a music, select a cd I've told above.
8. Body posture can be selected as you want, as sitting on a chair or sitting on floor.

Begin meditation:
1. With half closing eyes, you inhale and exhale, about 3-5 times. place attention to your breath, at your nose.
2. Now you can normally breath but not so fast. Don't put your breath in stomach. You'll get hurt if not experienced.
3. Stay calm, just enjoy your breath, exhale , inhale, exhale,.....and close your eyes.
4. For beginer, Usually people get any disturbance like thinking or seeing their not satisfied experience what they had done in the morning, or yesterday, or maybe 1 month ago.
Let it be, you now have a golden time to erase this memory, How? A. Replay what you seeing, thinking, B. Give the answer (way out) how to solved that unsatisfied experience. If you don't do that, maybe tomorrow will come again to your mind. C.Your subconscius mind is to be cleaned from bad memory, bad acting, bad thinking (because you've already give the best way out).4 points above maybe take you about 1 or more days, it depends to your cleaness subsconcius.
#1-#4 wil give you a big change in your life, especially your way of thinking and acting
5. Maybe after several days your bad's experienced to be cleaned ( no "bad or sad movie" can be seen more), then you'll go to more silent condition by just inhale and exhale.
6. In more meditate condition, you'll find peacefull world. You'r body and soul may nourished by clear and holy energy.
7. Keep smiling, thanks to god after each practice.
P.S. the actual meditate condition is in #6

Additional:
1. For everyday you should keep smiling :-)
2. Eat more vegetable than meats
3. Take a rest properly.
4. Pray to god everyday, thank to god
5. Give a hand to problematic person, if you can.

Finally:
May god bless you

I am an American but I am a Buddhist too...no, I am not one of those nut cases with a shaven head and I cheat and eat meat.
Meditation is a complete relaxation of the mind and body. Unlike hypnosis where one focuses, one must let the mind wander. Find a place where you will be uninterrupted for an hour or so...I like places near water. Sit down in a comfortable position (the Lotus position of Lord Buddha is not very comfortable to beginners) and begin to let your mind free...the wind, the sky, the flowers...you become one with them. In spiritual meditation, it is a little more complicated but similar. We consider our worth. The first few times you may feel little, then slowly it becomes a journey to internal happiness.

Go out into a field and look up at the clouds. Listen to children laughing and playing. Watch a river flow. Listen to the wind in the trees. Just let your mind and soul be filled with these things.

Lay down
close your eyes
relax your muscles
get rid of any bodily tension
imagine yourself walking down 10 steps to a beautiful garden.
With each step feel yourself getting more and more relaxed
With each step, feel the comfort grow
Walk around your garden, notice all the details
Stay and explore for as long as you want
Hear the "silence" in your mind
Open eyes
Take each day as it come!

Good luck
