Most aircraft accidents occur during takeoff and landing. If there were to be an accident, and the passengers had to evacuate the plane, they would be able to orient themselves as to what is going on outside. You wouldn't want to exit on one side of the plane, for example, if there were a fire burning there.

The possibilty of emergency evacuation is also why your seatbacks have to be upright (it makes getting out of them quickly easier, should the need arise), as well as keeping your carry-on baggage stowed completely (so people won't trip over bags protruding from under seats).

A couple of reasons.

1) If you get airsick looking out the window at the horizon helps your body adjust easier.
Your inner ear can feel the plane move and your eyes tell you the same thing. If the windows were closed it is difficult for your body to adjust. Many people do not have problems but the ones who do should have a window seat. The steady horizon helps.
2) During the take-off and landing if there was an accident being able to see the horizon and what is happening outside is important. The shades could get stuck in the down position if there was a hard landing and there would be no view.

they don't. They ask you to open the window colors. super distinction. the reason being in case of an emergency and the cabin lights is going out, daylight hours will gentle up the cabin in the time of the daylight hours, and if there must be an evacuation of the airplane, any hazards that exist outdoors would be seen to those evacuating if the window colors are up and skill rescuers interior the form of a crash could have the skill to make certain into the airplane a minimum of particularly.

probably to cool (the engine) a bit more, when landing/taking off/taxiing the plane goes a lot slower and cools less.

just to make sure you know you are flying...

...either that or they could just drive the plane round the block a bit & tell you that they have taken you somewhere different and you'd NEVER know!!!
