the elasticity of hair is how far it stretches. usually a hair stylist will check the elasticity of your hair before doing a perm, or other chemical service if you hair looks like it won't be able to handle it. that way it wont break off!!!

All hair should have elasticity.......... if not then it is damaged hair. Your stylist should always do a strand test on your hair to check the elasticity before performing any chemical services to insure that you have healthy hair. This means taking a single strand of hair and pulling ut between your finger and thumb applying pressure. It should stretch like a rubber band. If it pops then you need some deep conditioning treatments to bring it back to a healthy state. Sometimes it is dry and brittle and needs moisture added to get it into the condition that will allow you to add chemicals without farther damaging the hair. Protein can also be missing which causes the hair to break. Your stylist should be able to determine which you need. Dry, brittle hair normally does a lot of shedding which can be cured with deep conditioners, your choice, with a plastic bag under a warm dryer for 15 minutes, should help you to start putting the moisture back into your hair and rebuilding the hair shaft, thus giving you better elasticity.......... good luck!!!
