Dear Terry,

I am a Christian girl. And I always will be. But I want to say thank you for posting this question here, because it made me think. Plus, I'm always glad to get the opportunity to read about other people's thoughts. (I'm not quite sure everything you wrote is exactly what you think, but it has to come from somewhere, right?) I'll admit, what you said was a bit harsh. I do not think it would be impossible to find an atheist in a group of criminals; some atheists I know do fight against rules and laws. But that's beside the point. You're asking this question to Christians about what they think, not about the reality of atheists' lives.

Do I think I am better than atheists with my religion? No. Definitely and forever NO. Christianity is my religion. As I said above, it always will be. But it's also something that ends there. It's my religion. Other people are not me, so I have no right in the world to force my religion upon them or think of Christianity as some sort of high scale status.

You're right. There is absolutely no use in going to church on Sunday morning after a drug and sex party on Saturday. And you're right. It's wrong to kill, insult, discriminate, and judge in the name of God. I indirectly lost a very close gay friend to a hate crime committed by so-called Christian guys. I have seen other gay/bisexual/transgendered people live in fear of themselves because of the so-called "piety" of Christians. I've seen a wonderful girl get disowned by her church-going parents because her boyfriend raped her and she was powerless to stop him. And I've cried to see the different kinds of beauty we are blessed with shatter beyond repair.

I know that I have no right to ask this of you. But I will. Please forgive me and the people I call brothers and sisters in Christ for what we have done to the world. So much of what we have done is not and will never be true Christianity. God will not forgive us for the wrong and disgusting things we have done. But I ask your pardon. Please forgive us.

Do I think that life doesn't need me? No. I am deeply ashamed of what some fellow Christians are doing. And I pray that whatever happens, I will never be like them. (But I will also always pray FOR them because without a chance God gave me, I might have been no different from the way they are.) I pray that I will learn to listen whenever needed, to appreciate and to love wherever I am needed. That is the only thing I can offer to the world. But I believe that I am here for a reason. I believe that my faith is what it is before my God; not what other people say, not what other people do. And I believe that because of this, I will never be ashamed of my own faith. Faith is the gift that has gotten me through rough times. And because it is a gift, I will try to love in return.

Thank you for this opportunity. I truly appreciate it.

Regards,

Dana Mackenzie

First of all I am a Christian, a practicing Christian. I can assure you that I do not go out on Saturday night and do any of the things you are talking about. You don't know me and I don't appreciate you making a general assumption like that. That in it self, seems very judgemental.

Second, all I ever hear about or see, is how Athiest's want to take crosses away from cemetaries, and prayer out of school, ect. (Now not every Atheist, am I talking about) just the ones I see on TV and hear about in the paper.

This country was based on religious freedom. Yours and mine. So I have a big problem with the fact that if someone sees a cross and it offends them, it should be taken down. Many, many things offend me in the world but they are not removed because a CHRISTIAN says so. Now are they?

Your religious freedom or any freedom begins where mine ends. And if you are talking about tolerance, then that is a two way street. And I don't see a whole lot of questions like this that make me believe, many people are walking that street.

I am atheist and yes I do agree with you but what is happening here is decade after decade people are teaching religion, People I have talked to who were honest with me said they were afraid not to believe in god. Its kinda of a cult were you are brain washed kinda. People are taught so young and it becomes a life style. If you are born into a violent religion those small children are only doing what they have been taught. The same applies to racism they mimic their home influences. It is what they were taught. I think everyone is equal Right now many debates about gays all fighting them are religious. What does it matter to them what two consenting adults do in their home. It is and always be a struggle for power and money. These TV Evangelist all have money from the people who believe they must give to the church ????????? I don't know why? LIve and let live!

No such ingredient. An atheist believes in NO god/desses. that would incorporate Allah,Ganesh, Kali, Isis, Thor, Gaia, Danu, and so on...maximum English talking purchasers are at here and are raised Christian, yet i could say my morals & ideals are from a mix of empathy & society. i'm professional-determination, and so are many Xians and that i'm additionally vegetarian. The Bible is extremely contradictory. That total 'no longer killing' ingredient? multiple Xians do no longer look to have a topic with production facility farms, the dying penalty or going to conflict. And in case you examine the OT, you do no longer could circulate far to make sure some tale the place the 'chosen ones' are commanded to kill. There are over 30,000 Xian denom's accessible...there's a clarification why.

Hello Terry,

I am, Handyman, you sent me an e-mail and I answered you.
The Yahoo Q&A is a good place for you to practice your writting and reading skills but I think you need to change the subject.

In a previous post you mentioned that people don't like you because of your broken language.....ever think maybe they don't like you because of the things you think about and talk about.

The subject of Christians and Atheists is a very emotional subject to most Americans. If you want to learn this language, start with lighter subjects like......"What is your favorite subject in school".....something that is not so ..............touchy. As your language skills improve and your understanding of Americans is better, then you can move on to the harder subjects.

The folks above gave you some good answers but I was really moved (liked) what ..."Dana".....said. She poured out her heart to you and gave you some really good things to think about. She is thinking and responding to your question like a Christian is supposed to. If you ever need an example of what American Chiristians should be like, reread her answer. Copy it and paste in a file so you do not lose it.

There are a couple Athiest that answered your question with very good answers. They did not say Christians are wrong and they are right. They did say that we as Americans have the right to chose what path we want to take as far as religion goes.

I am very impressed with the nonjudgemental answers you got from these folks. You got lucky this time.

Terry, I hope you will try to understand Americans. Know that we are different from you because of where we live and how our parents raised us. Our thoughts do not work exactly the same as yours.

Keep your mind on your studies in school and get good grades, that is the most important thing for you right now.

I just want the atheists to hear the truth. It is up to them to deal with it. There are Christians that do party, etc. . This doesn't make it right. I don't believe the true saved Christian acts that way. Yes we are forgiven when we ask, but we need to repent.. be sorry. Jesus told the man sin no more or else something worse may happen. If we willfully keep sinning, then something is wrong... we need deliverance.

I was a Christian long time ago. I'm a Atheist / Agnostic.
Here is what I learned:

Religion is not for everyone!
It's not for me. My life is happier not having it.
Some people need it in order to keep their life in order.

Drugs & party thing: Christian, Atheist, Jewish, etc. People of all types of religions do it.

Lots of people don't follow every rule in their religion.
For example, Mormons are not supposed to do alcohol or drugs at all. I know a mormon who drinks alcohol, but doesn't abuse it.

I think that religion is one way of enforcing rules that the law won't do. Also it gives an understanding of why certain rules or laws were put in place.
Sometimes I think this quote, "It's better to have love & lost, than to have never loved at all," is kind of like what I'm trying to say about religion, but backwards. Like the mormon's alcohol rule, this is my quote, "It's better not to drink at all, than to do drink then abuse it then risk yourself from repeating the mistake."

You don't distinguish properly between church goers and true christians. Going to church does not make you a christian.
Being a christian is not a cloak you wear but a personality of what you are it is a way of life.
Atheists are no better - and your question points of hypocrisy.
