My computer was hit by a virus or trojan, and now I am unable to access the Task Manager when I hit ctrl-alt-del. I've removed the malicious files, yet the problem still remains. Whenever I attempt to access the program, I get a message that informs me that the program has been blocked by the administrator. I am assigned administrator privileges on my own computer and have been attempting to reset security permissions fot the Task Manager program through it's properties field. Unfortunately, I'm not having much luck in regaining access. Can anyone offer any advice on how to correct the problem?

There is a registry hack to enable or disable Windows NT TaskManager. The same registry hack applies to Windows 2000 and Windows XP.
Hive: HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Key: Software\Microsoft\Windows\Cur...
Name: DisableTaskMgr
Type: REG_DWORD
Value: 1=Enablethis key, that is DISABLE TaskManager
Value: 0=Disablethis key, that is Don't Disable, Enable TaskManager

Or

Click Start
Click Run
Enter gpedit.msc in the Open box and click OK
In the Group Policy settings window
Select User Configuration
Select Administrative Templates
Select System
Select Ctrl+Alt+Delete options
Select Remove Task Manager
Double-click the Remove Task Manager option
And as I mentioned above, since the policy is Remove Task Manager, by disabling the policy, you are enabling the Task Manager.

On the task bar, right click and select Task Manager. If that doesn't work create another admin account and try launching TM on that. If that doesn't work you probably have a virus or spyware. Remember that viruses and spyware can come back even after you delete them; you may need to check the registry. Below are a few free utilities you can use:- (remember that it is very risky to change the registry without help of other programs. If you want to do this manually you do so at your own risk. You need to look for TaskManager or similar in HKCU).

Try access by right clicking on the task bar and selecting Task manager. Else try SpyBot.
Maybe create a new Administrator profile.

Sounds like you still have the virus. You should have no problem accessing the TM if you're clean. Get your system scanned again.
