You know, I think you are right.
Teacher do not take their work home... most do not even grade papers at home, it is done in class by the students trading papers.
So, although I understand the reason for homework. I do not agree with it. Especially for the lower grades. These kids want to play and should. They don't even get to play at school anymore, except after lunch, and only to wait til classmates have finished eating.
Thanks for the question/comment.

yes. the whole model of learning in public schools stinks.

we unschool, so my kids have no 'homework,' but you can't stop them from reading and learning because they are so psyched about it. Humans love to learn. Schools destroy that love.

I say, let's not only do away with homework! Let's turn all our schols into 'learning resource centers.' No groups by age or anything else. Kids come in, have access to every terrific book, computer program, kitchen equipment, gardening equipment, arts and crafts supplies, etc. If a student wants guidance, they can chat with a teacher. Heck, if several students want a lecture, they could ask a teacher for one.

Yes, if teachers would do their job, kids wouldn't have to come home after 7+ hours of school and do homework too. I have homeschooled kids, that do better than their peers at their old public school and have never had to put in an extra 3 -4 hours of homework just to do good in school. It's teachers that are too lazy to teach the kids the proper way that send kids home with loads of extra stuff, so they don't have to cover it in class.

Well if teachers COULD do their jobs in the classroom, there would be no need for homework. I said could, not would, so don't jump on me. :)

Classrooms are so full of disruptions by ill-behaved children that teachers cannot possibly teach everything a child needs to learn, thus sending it home for the parents to help with.

doing homeworks is similar to revising what had been taught in the class on that day.you will know its use later.even most of the students will be against you

so, you would be willing to stay at/in school another 3 to 4 hours EVERY DAY, maybe come in on SATURDAY, reading textbooks and answering practice questions?

You must like school a lot more than i did.

Creative works shall be entrusted during that time, especially week ends. Or that too is taboo.
