Last time i checked the stanley cup hasnt been won by a canadian team since 92-93 by the canadiens.....isnt hockey your "sport"? Thats a long time that the Americans have dominated canada. so why is canada so horrible at a sport that they claim is theirs? ????/ and you can tell me that all the cnadian players go play for American teams...but if canada was so good they should just stay there then shouldnt they? i guess it has something to do with the one of the worlds highest suicide rates...

Interesting question. Right up there with why do they call it the world series when the world doesn't bother to show up? And Why do they call it the superbowl when it isn't at all super? (pause) Oh, and the world doesn't bother to show up!

Canada's excuse is the good old bait and switch.

Disappointing in Hockey? WTF? Look at the Canadian Hockey record:

The men's Olympics
7 Gold 4 Silver 2 Bronze - Best winning record
(US 2-7-1 a distant third because of the miracle)

The World Championships (Includes teams from the world - You have to explain that to Americans)
23 Gold 11 Silver 10 Bronze - Best winning record
(US 0-9-5 6th in world)

The World Cup of Hockey (Includes World)
5 Gold 2 Silver 0 Bronze - Best winning record
(US 1-1-0 3rd)

The Women's Olympics
2 Gold 1 Silver 0 Bronze - Best winning record
(US 1-1-1)

The Women's World Cup (Includes World)
8 Gold 1 Silver 0 Bronze - Best winning record
(US 1-8-0 -2nd 1 gold won in a shootout)

The World Jr's
11 Gold 6 Silver 4Bronze - Tied for most gold with Russia
(US 1-1-2 - 6th)

In most of these categories Canada has more Gold metals than the US has combined. We are ranked first in most of these.

The Stanley Cup?
There are 30 NHL teams. Only 6 are in Canada, and that mostly has to do with population of Canadian Cities. Given we are about the population of California and they have 3 teams we are doing okay. An interesting note, the cup has never been won in California, but has been won by 7 Canadian Cities. (6 teams - 7 have won. not bad) The cup has been won by Canada over 50 percent of the time, when we have 20 percent of the teams.

Canadian Cities records winning the Cup
Montreal 24 most wins (more than the top 4 US teams combined)
Toronto 13 - second
Edmonton 5 - tied for 4th
Ottawa 4 - tied for 6th

The Cup mostly has Canadian Names on it. How do I know? I just saw it. Right after it was won, they brought it back into Canada. First to Vancouver, then here. I live in Erin Marie's home town.

Are you moron? (rhetorical question).... If you did your research, you would know that MOST of the Carolina Hurricanes' players are in fact Canadian, which is usually the case for MOST "American" teams. They can't even make up an Olympic team without including a Canadian for God's sake. Canadians go south of the border for money. Plain and simple. Americans worship the almighty dollar, so why can't some of us get in on the action from time to time? There are only so many national teams here in Canada. If we kept all our players up here, we'd have teams of 100 players or more. Hockey players are one of our biggest exports (just ahead of comedians). If you love hockey so much, you should show some respect to where it originated and the original teams.

Btw, are you seriously making fun of our suicide rates? Try living next to ignorant ppl like you for an entire lifetime... maybe that's the reason.... A lot of ppl are affected by Seasonal Affective Disorder. It's a form of depression that comes from enduring long winters without much sun, it's got nothing to do with hockey or lifestyle. The only reason the US ranks lower is b/c you have so many murders. Gotta figure some of those victims were suicidal in the first place. I'd rather live in a country with a high suicide rate than one with one the highest rates of murder.

You're an idiot...or should I say Hoosier!! All your lame *** American teams that keep winning the Stanley Cup are stocked with CANADIAN players...Eric Lindross, Mark Messier, Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, Doug Gilmour, Kris Draper, Keith Primeau, Steve Yzerman. It's only because money hungry, greedy Americans BUY every team and player from Canada that it SEEMS that the States win all the cups. And check out the Olympic hockey stats where Canada has won 7 gold medals and 5 silver medals since 1920 and the States has only won 3 gold and 7 silver, and 5 out of the 7 times Canada won the gold it was cause we kicked the Americans asses!! And your stupid comment about suicide rates is retarded...but if it is true (which I'm sure it's not) at least we choose when to die, all you Americans just shoot eachother like a bunch of paranoid REDNECKS!

Roughly 40% of NHL players are Canadian, that leaves the other 60% to be spilt up by the US, Russia, and many other European countries. With almost half the league being Canadian, and only 6 teams they cant all play for a Canadian team, although im sure most of them would like too.

Canada is responsible for Hockey being so popular in other countries. Canada should be proud of its influence on Hockey.

NHL teams are throughout North America. Many Canadian, Swedish, American, Polish, players.

Diversity makes the sport more appealing to everyone.

You have zero reason to complain.

Yeah, we didn't do to well in the past while, but if you heard about how crazy it got here in Edmonton with the oilers for the cup....there were riots and things burning...I would be scared to see what would have happened if we won. We do have a strong passion for the game, thats for sure, but us Canadians don't always have to be first, we're not that arrogant of a culture....Its funny how upset you get everyone though!

My god, are you that immature?

Yes most of the players are Canadians, and when has anyone done anything for the love of their country? They do it for the love of money.

American teams have larger audiences, and larger buckets of money, so the players head south to play.

Guess again, sweet lips. Lacrosse is Canada's national game.

PS: The US suicide rate is higher than Canada's. Wonder why that is?
