No, as a matter of fact spaying or neutering an animal is a widely accepted practice, not to mention highly encouraged, in the animal rights world.

Spaying or Neutering Is Good for Your Companion Animal

* Spaying and neutering helps dogs and cats live longer, healthier lives.
* Spaying and neutering can eliminate or reduce the incidence of a number of health problems that can be very difficult or expensive to treat.
* Spaying eliminates the possibility of uterine or ovarian cancer and greatly reduces the incidence of breast cancer, particularly when your pet is spayed before her first estrous cycle.
* Neutering eliminates testicular cancer and decreases the incidence of prostate disease.

EVERY LIVING THING SHOULD HAVE RIGHTS!!!!!!!!!!! It's against nature's law. Would all of you people want to get fixed. It should be an animals choice wether to be fixed or not. If people didn't have to build so many buildings maybe it would be easier for stray animals to survive, but nooooo people have to be so selfish. Soon there will be no such thing as a wild animal when all those other countries become like U.S.A with barely any trees or woods. What's the point of getting a job and working for money. You would be stuck to the same routine everyday. Why is money so valuable? Sure it buys you stuff, but do we really need it all, I mean we can hunt food like the Native Americans did and it's just paper that people made cutting down trees and there also wouldn't be so many poor people and so many dead people because some people become greedy and kill. We can make things can't we? So why need computers, video games, tv, and other stuff. What's the point have having a car if you can enjoy riding a bike to work or why need work at all if we can do stuff ourselves, plus cars cause polution. We don't need hairspray products do we? It only causes global warming.

I once had a dream where there were no houses or buildings and everything was so beautiful. I was in a meadow them came to a lake or pond surounded be BIG trees with vines, flowers, butterflies, birds, other animals, and the lake was all shining and glittering. I was in a canoe and then I saw a small, but still big, waterfall. When the waterfall was behind me a cat jumped into a boat and the place I was now was almost the same as the other and I also forgot to mention that the sun was HUGE, but it was hard to see because of the trees and I wore this silky drees, that was violet and yellow. I don't remember how that dream started or ended, but I still remember that little part of it from so long ago. If only a place like that existed, but it will only in my dreams *sigh*. People would be more happier in a place like that. It was so peaceful.

Back to reality now. I have a cat, he's not fixed and I'm happy about it.

It may be a basic instinct, but in the real world, too many animals are euthanized DAILY to let animals act on that instinct.
It is unfortunate that we can't control the "breeding" of some people the same way. There are far too many of them that can't control that instinct also!!!

Well... on the other hand, altering drastically decreases the chances of getting a choice selection of diseases, including cancer, altering is actually prolonging the animal's lifespan.

Considering that breeding (as in creating / maintaining breeds) has some very low necessities (like inbreeding and culling), I'd say de-sexing is not that much of a problem.

Animals do have rights which is why they have the domestic and feral animals act. It is OUR responsibility as people in society who maintain and control animals to desex them. We have animals for companions and for sport. It is of the utmost importance to desex dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs and rats in my experience, I have found while working in animal welfare for the past 16 years. Consider a scenario of 1 female cat queens say 7 kittens and of these 7 by 7 litters are born(49) then of those 49, 49 by 49 litters are born (2401) kittens are produced etc. I have seen more than you could imagine needless euthanasia because some one said "I just wanted to give her the right to have babies"

Spaying/Nuetering is good for cats..Because of some owners carelessness, millions of cats are put down every year. Would you like to be the reason why this guy was put down??

no as it causes them no disstress. and it is done in the species best intresst to avoid overpopulation.
it also stops frustration in the animals that arnt breeding but are getting the urge to as de-sexing stops the urge.
