The #1 ranking for picture and quality is LG. They are expensive. The next is Sharp and Sony.
There are some great deals on Sony right now.
Model changeover is in full swing. If you have a Fry's in your area , check them out. Stay away from Samsung, they have quality issues.

If u are looking for extremely high-end(doesn't mean more expensive) LCD tvs, never look for others except Sony's Bravia series and Panasonic 50 and 60 series. They have been ranking top in the LCD league for a long time in a HDTV magazine which tests HDTV's performances. If u are just looking for something "good", any of the LG, Samsung, Phillips, Toshiba will do. =)

I just bought a Sony and love it. There are many good ones, however, depending on the features you want and how much you want to spend. Sharp is one of the leaders in LCD technology... their Aquos line is very good. Viewsonic makes a very nice product for not a lot of money. Beware, though, if you're shopping for an HD set. Many do not come with an HD tuner... this adds to the price. You may not need it, though. If you want to receive local off-air HD broadcasts with an outside antenna, you should get one with an HD tuner. If you're going to use an HD cable box or satellite receiver, you won't need this special tuner. Make sure the set you're buying has sufficient inputs to accomodate whatever products you're going to be connecting to it.

Sharp Aquos, presently the only one with full 1080p resolution. But it's expensive.
