Unfortunately there is no 'cure' for this behaviour.

I have a one year old Irish Setter who still does this; however we did get her at the right time as we had just moved into a new home and is decorating was terrible.

Needless to say we have not redecorated as she still has phases of peeling the wallpaper off the wall but she will not do it when anyone is there - only on her own.

I now allow my pooch the full run of the house when i am out and i leave the TV on for her and she will happily just lie on the floor and sleep and watch TV.

Do gets lots of toys and chews and praise him/her when they play with them or chew on their hide bones etc; he/she will be pleased that he/she knows that they are doing something right and will want to do it more to get your attention.

Peeling wallpaper off the walls is for attention.

Its a 'look you have been out all day so i've done this to your house'.

Giving praise for good behaviour and a simple 'you bad girl/boy' when they are bad, they will soon learn.

Best of luck - there is light at the end of the tunnel, honest!!!

Buy it loadsa (and I mean 20-30) different types, colours and textures of toys. He's only chewing the paper 'cus he's bored. Give it something else to focus the mind and he'll stop.

My suggestion would be a toy that you put treats in and then they have to roll the toy around the floor so the treats 'fall out'. Once they know how to use it then you reduce the size of the opening and you dog will spend hours trying to get the treats out.

NB - I don't mean close the opening altogether just enough so the odd treat falls out with a bit of effort.

Calling him names or screaming won't help in any respect. Why? they do no longer talk English. in the time of the day once you're no longer residing house the two pen him or pass fixtures in front of the place he's bitting so he won't be in a position of do it. ascertain you supply him a variety of of toys to chew on. another merchandise in case you house is supplied in the previous 1975 the plaster could have asbestos in it. this is obviously no longer sturdy for the canines to ingest yet as quickly as disturbed you and your loved ones are respiratory it which will nicely be deadly.

my 9 month old rottie is very destructive as well, i bought a very large dog crate for him, and blankets and a large kong toy which i stuff with peanutbutter, bacon and dog biscuits , i introduced him to his crate slowly by leaving the door open with all his toys and treats in there and he would go in a fetch them , he did eventually lay in there with them and now and again i would close the door to it while i was home only for 20 mins or so as not to stress him. now i can leave him for short periods in the cage while i go out to do the shopping knowing he is safe and my home is too.
i have 3 dogs altogether the other rottie and lab ive got ive had no probs with chewing things up, but little oscar is a chewer lol
carpets, walls, plaster off the walls, clothes, shoes, remote controls etc you name it he's got hold of it.
numerous trips to the vets because he's had something he shouldn't of.
i didn't like the idea of a cage but it has saved me hundreds of pounds of furniture and belongings and vets bills so far.
he does love his cage he goes in there of his own free will as its his space with his things in it.
invest in a dog crate
