My 3 kids and I are taking a class at our Local Child & Family Services Office. There are SEVERAL grandparents raising their grandchildren.

Various ages and reasons why. Mostly the parents are on drugs or can't take care of their children.

I'm not a grandmother, nor am I on drugs or an alcoholic. My mother / father is raising my daughter, but not because I want them to, it's because at least with them my 14 year old got off alcohol herself and stopped running away every second night. She did this because she said I wouldn't allow her to drink or smoke drugs so she'd run away at in the middle of the night and crawl back home from drunkenness sometime during the day.

They have an extremely hard time, but through them I'm becoming close again to my daughter who hated me with a passion for about 4 years now. We've talked about her moving back home, this I've got my fingers crossed that she will.

I look up and applaud grandparents like you. It's too bad your grandson's parents weren't better people and off drugs. He should be with his parents, but thank god he has you and your hubby. Again, I wish you the best of luck with your grandson, he is indeed a lucky person to have a grandparent who loves him enough to take him in.

I was brought up by my grandparents after my parents split up. I think its great that he has a loving and supportive grandmother like you. Just by loving him you are giving him the very best start. xxx
