It hasn't been all that long ago in America when summer vacations for students were treated as a sacred time for families and their children to have fun together, and have time for other interests such as travel. As the old adage says, doesn't too much work and no play make Jack a dull boy?

There is a growing trend in many American school districts to load so much summer homework on students that they never have a real vacation, and neither do their families. If it hasn't happened yet in your own school district, that doesn't mean it isn't on the way. A little research will reveal these facts to you. Families were once considered to be intelligent enough to teach their children other things during summer vacations, which can often be more important and significant than extra work assigned by a teacher, who is not - by the way - always the fount of all knowledge.
