Yes, it's true -- that rather bland brew Budweiser wears the crown of bestselling beer in the world. Until recently, it also held the title of bestselling beer in America. But Bud was recently dethroned in the United States by its brother, Bud Light.

Budweiser's maker, Anheuser-Busch, is the largest brewer in the world and has a corner on about 50% of the U.S. beer market. The company sells beer under a number of other labels, including Busch (of course), but also Michelob, Red Wolf, and O'Doul's. The company also holds an interest in two microbreweries, Redhook and Widmer Brothers.

So although Anheuser-Busch has conquered the world beer market and Budweiser may be the King of Beers, true beer lovers usually give the crown to a less mass-marketed brew.

Beer is used as too broad a term. In this country anything over 5.5% alcohol by volume is considered malt liquor. So some foreign brews that may be wildly popular are not actually considered beers by the FDA. But in general I tend to agree that Budweiser of Bud Light is the most popular beer. Most people say they're no good but the simple fact is those mass marketed beers make you just as drunk as any other, and nothing beats a cold Budweiser after sweatin you're *** of all day in this ridiculous Texas sun. This Bud's for you! (Even though I prefer Lone Star: The National Beer of Texas)

Hello

The Best Beer in the World: Saison Dupont
Origin: Belgium
Alcohol content by volume: 6.5%
With its luminous orangey-blond color and huge, rocky head, this beer just looks great. But wait till you taste it: Like other saisons, Dupont's is made with a secret mix of herbs that give it an addictive earthy taste and an agreeable bitterness. At 6.5 percent, it's also got a mild kick, which balances a range of citrusy, malty flavors that even wizened beer connoisseurs struggle to describe. "Impossibly delicious," says legendary brewmaster Garrett Oliver. Saison Dupont is the "desert island beer" of many men (Oliver and present company included). Pop a cork, guys -- we think you'll feel the same way (brasserie-dupont.com).

BUT i VOTE FOR : Heineken (Blond), Netherlands
Heineken is, if the votes were any indication, the most popular beer in the world, and amongst the most recognizable brands around. The top spot goes to Heineken, but any Heineken lover should try another Dutch offering.
Without taking anything away from this great beer, the Netherlands has another tasty beer that received less votes but deserves much praise, and that is the Grolsch brand, which comes in its signature pop-up bottle. Other Dutch beers that got a substantial amount of votes were Amstel and Amstel Light.

GET DRUNKEN BUDDY!

If it's in the world, it would have to be one that is widely advertised, and sold pretty much everywhere. I've travelled around some countries, and I've always been able to find heineken. Can't say the same for budweiser or bud-light.

"Most popular" means, which one sells the most. The beer that sells the most is not necessarily the best. In the U.S. it is a race between Budweiser and Coors and it is their so-called light products that lead in sales. The fact that both are watery swill that qualifies as a crime against nature doesn't seem to hurt their sales figures. Most popular has to be defined as which beer can advertising get the masses to drink, hardly popular with me. If it ain't black, it ain't beer.

Either Heineken or Amstel....but I love cold Coronas during the summer..cause they're lighter and dont give you that heavy feeling in your stomach.Plus, you can have like 10 of them and still be on a great buzz....
