Flickr is probably the best resource for this sort of thing. You just have to be mindful of copyright. Each of the photos will tell you what licence applies. If something is marked "All rights reserved" you can always get in contact with the publisher to ask if they mind you using it - most people are happy so long as what you're proposing sounds reasonable to them.

Tip: Search for what you're looking for then sort by "most interesting" to get the really good shots! Then click the "All Sizes" button above the photo to get the hi-res versions. Note that not all photos have this button. Some photographers restrict the "All Sizes" feature to "contacts", "friends" or even just registered flickr users, so it might be worth signing up so you at least have a flickr accounts - it's a Yahoo! ID system so that should be pretty straight forward for you.
