I noticed that two weeks after a Frontline treatment, the fleas seem to make a reappearance. I don't want to give a premature dosage of Frontline because I'm afraid it will irritate her. Is a flea collar a bad idea for that same reason?

First you need to find the source of the fleas, could be your house is infested and you will need to spray it to get rid of them. Don't do bug bombs, the spray goes up in the air and comes back down, in won't get under the bed and next to the walls where fleas like to live, they also love to live in the carpet and can stay there for months until something with blood comes a long for them to live on. Virbac makes a spray called Knockout and it is great for this. If your cat goes outdoors, then it could be picking them up from there. We carry this at our vet clinic, but I don't know if Petsmart or one of those places carry it. You don't need a prescription to get it. Virbac also makes a yard spray to kill fleas, ticks and other things that like to feast on your pet.

Flea collars only work about an inch on either side of the collar, so it doesn't help the ones by the tail or under the belly. You could apply a second application, it is safe. I use Revolution on my cats because it does some deworming, ear mites, a so so job on ticks and kills the fleas for 30 days.

The most important thing is to do the yard, house and cat all in the same day. Otherwise you are just running them from one place to another.

If the cat is 10 pounds or more you can put the Frontline on every 2o days or so during the summer. We had to put it on our cat after 17 days and the Vet said it was ok. The collar may irritate her skin with or without the Frontline. Cut the collar into 3 pieces. put a piece in your vacuum cleaner bag, then vacuum but throw out the bag into another bag and get it out of your house immediately (the fleas could jump out so you want to throw the bag out right away). Brush the cat (outside your house). If the cat has an irritation the Vet will give it pills for allergic dermatitis.

Fleas suck.(no pun intended).

Before advances were made in flea control, owners often used two products together, one that killed adult and one that killed the eggs and larvae. Before I switched to Advantage, I used a flea mist by Adams that had pyrethins in it and my Bengal cat tolerated it pretty well. Flea collars only kill the fleas within an inch radius of the collar, so it really wouldn't have much of an effect. You should NEVER use two topicals together, nor should you use a collar or topical after having the cat dipped. Cats are extremely sensitive to chemicals.

How bad is the infestation? I've found that if it is minor, treating the cat, then washing bedding and vaccuming carpets usually takes care of the problem.

Why would you want to? The Frontline treatment should be working and if it isn't you might want to change brands. My vet told me flea collars were useless and at first I thought he was just trying to sell his "stuff" until I got a flea comb from the pet section and combed my cat that was wearing a flea collar. I found the most fleas right around his neck where the flea collar was so I don't use them anymore. I get Revolution from the vet.

NEVER put any flea treatment over another without consulting a vet. Cats are very sensitive to chemicals. It is easy to poison a cat. Besides that, flea collars are next to useless. Look for a flea shampoo that has citrus-D as the flea killer. It is effective and safe. Still ask a vet before uaing it too.

I use Advantage and within hours, if your pet has any fleas, they will be dead. If your Frontline is not doing what you want, ask your vet to change the brand. You should not use two different products at the same time. I got my Advantage from my vet, got the correct dosage and now I send away to one of the pet supplies for it. Saves me money.

Switch the brand of medication and do not use flea collars they are poison. Trust me my cat died by using a flea collar. Hope your cat gets better.

front line to the back line, advantage is best. flea collars are a joke by them selves, never combine two treatments

call your vet, they would be able to tell you but I've heard that lemon dish soap helps with the fleas.
