it's certainly possible to gain that much, but it may well be to do with fluid in your body over such a short time...

if you weight yourself After you eat, and holding on to a full bladder - you might find that you can lose weight just be weighing yourself before you eat (and after you wee)

Yes, this is possible.

A few reasons may cause this.

Taking saltish food may also cause our body to retain water. But if just one day of saltish food will give you a 5lbs increase in weight, then you think your kidneys are likely to be quite weak.

however, there are also other possibilities like your period might have been coming.

Also, the way you weigh yourself may affect the weight difference.

In order for a fair comparision, it is important to weigh yourself at the same time everyday. That would be in the morning when you just woke up and have already gone to toilet.

This is because just drinking a glass of water is likely to let your weight increase by 2-3lbs already!

PS: Before or after poop makes the diff as well!

Unless you're very short, or very young, it seems you are seriously underweight.
In general, yes, you can gain 5 pounds in one day, but it won't be fat. People with cardiac problems and kidney problems gain and lose several pounds all the time. It's dangerous though, so you should get it checked out, especially as a 5 lb. wt. gain for you is nearly 10% of your weight.

Can happen, if you hold something weighing 5 pounds and check weight the next day.
