It is nice to see Fuji dissed by someone who can't even spell their name correctly but then they proceed to try and preach vitures of others to you. Please do your own research and DO NOT be swayed by people that are trying to get you to buy from them or just because they used a camera for a purpose it wasn't suited for. Every camera maker has a following and a good product for what that product is designed for. Ask a professional in your area at a shop that carries a multi range line not just one like cannon, fuji or whatever, but one that sells everything where they won't be biased against another. And please go when they aren't busy where they won't rush you. Tell them you will not be making a purchase just yet, and fact find, don't be afraid to take a notebook and write things down, COMPARE. My daughter is going to college for photography and she now has 3 cameras, each for a different purpose, up close, portraits, actions landscapes etc and get this one is a cannon, one is minolta and the most recent purchase was the fuji fine pix 9.0 mega pixels what a great camera never have her images been so clear! Am I telling you this is the best camera no, it depends on your usage and an investment of $600 (we bought online cheap in Dec) is not for everyone. The one thing that really burns me up is when someone tries and tells me that what they have is better than what you have! That isn't true usage and value play a part every manufacturer has a following for that very reason. I once had someone tell me at a local camera shop (when I was asking about accessories for the fuji) oh you should just buy a cannon we have cameras up to 8 mega pixels now! I said really this one is 9! He looked at it and said these aren't even out yet for cannon! No kidding buddy before you diss what you don't know maybe you should do some research on the competition!

Fugi is the redheaded stepchild of the digital camera world. Which is a polite way of saying their cameras suck.
The two companies that dominate the digital camera marketplace are Sony and Canon. Sony edges out Canon when it comes to point and shoot cameras. They are simply more aggressive at getting out new developments in camera technology to the marketplace. The best point and shoot camera that money can buy is the DSC-R1 by Sony. And I don't see any other manufacturer even considering a challenge to this, at this time (which is mega stupid to my way of thinking, but whatever).
Canon, on the other hand dominates the digital SLR market. SLR cameras are the ones where you can change lenses etc. They are much better cameras than point and shoot cameras but also much more complex, harder to use and much more expensive. I wouldn't bother with the bottom line dSLR cameras as the Sony R1 outperforms them unless you basically spend twice as much for an expensive lens.
When it comes to HIGH end cameras (over $5000 professional rigs) Canon is so clearly on top that it is foolish to get anything else.

some folks talk a lot without saying anything constructive. ive been at this for 30 odd years. everyone will have you believe their piece of plastic junk is the best. all they want is a sale.
nikons are good, but theyre expensive. badge engineeering, and their metering system sucks.
fujii film is great, their cameras...er too plastic, but the 9500 looks good, and i nearly bought one.
but, ive always owned olympus cameras, 35mm and digital. they may not have the required designer label, but why do you want a camera? (to do a job) so it would make sense to get one with a decent meter, wouldnt it? ive got an E500, it runs rings around the cannon 350D, the nikon D50 and D70 are plastic and overpriced. the olympus E series lenses are fast, and crystal clear, and the camera can shoot frames until the CF or Xd cards are full at 3 frames per second. but the best part is the meter...
i can select F22 and point and shoot, i was out amongst the lightening the other night, and the lens was staying open for around 5 to 6 minutes... nikons can only go to 30 seconds max...oh and the E500 also shoots at1/4000 of a second. and teh films speed is selectable from 50asa to 1600asa...
oh, and all it does is take photos. theres no poxy video option...who in their right mind wants to watch an image thats 480x640... mine are 4000x3500, and at 3FPS i can create flicker books which are so detailed... i shot my daughter playing her fender... 40 frames. and you can see the strings resonating as she plucks and strums them.
but, you pay your money and you takes your pick. and to put this into perspective ive been looking at digital SLRs for almost a year, and i fnally got eh best deal in the world at PC world. they had the E500 on offer for 600 quid. i traded the freebies(in store) ...and got, 17-45 and 40-150 lenses, 2gigs of CF, 3 rechargeable batteries and a charger and a very nice leather case, for 470 quid.... oh, and an extended warranty...

The most popular, highly rated point & shoot digital cameras tend to be from Canon. You should check out http://www.digitalcamerareviewsite.com/index.php/all_cameras which compiles user reviews from around the internet. If you look at their ratings, Canon cameras dominate the top.

The best camera, which i will be using since 2 years -SONY. Please look in to the all particulars of the camera and if you want a professional one, then go for an extended functional one.It also depends upon , how actively will be using it, ask for a large memory to save all that you take.
