Grass outside is probably full of germs and cockatiels are very sensitive, so be careful. Also this is not food for cockatiels merely some entertainment - unless you are not feeding it anything else and the little thing is desperate. It is a parakeet and should therefore be fed a mixture of parakeet seeds as well as a full balanced diet which can be bought from vets or pet shops. Some names available in the UK are Avi-Plus and Kati. Not sure what else as havent been here very long. These foods are full diets and provide your birds with all the nutrients needed. Seeds are very high in fat and should therefore not be the only food given if possible. Cut up small bits of apple and spinanch and cabbage and place it in the cage and she should eventually eat it.

Brightly coloured vegetables like carrots and peppers are good for their plumage, you can try the bird with little bits, if it doesn't go for them keep trying others until you find some it likes, or try soaking the veg in fruit juice. Avoid avocado, it's poisonous to them. Be careful if you give it sunflower seeds- to parrots it's like chocolate and they can get addicted to them and not eat regular food. For entertainment play with it lots, buy it toys and rotate different toys through the cage each week- don't put them all in at the same time.

You should get parrot food from a pet store and only feed it that, I don't know about grass. Just have it out of the cage indoors as much as you can and keep it company, talk to it and treat it like a small child.

What are you doing feeding it grass? feed it sunflower seeds! they love them. if you wana entertain your bird by buying more perches for the cage and mirrors. cuttlefish tied to the cage help keep his beak nice and sharpe and prevent it over growing. try reading up on the bird as well to get more ideas.

it is not a cow to feed on grass. it is seed-eating bird! give it a whole carrot to nibble, some not yet ripe grass seeds (the whole stalks) and any other ripening seeds on the stalks. mine parakeet loves unripe dandelion seeds above all. and tree buds in spring. just be careful - check for species that can harm the health of it
