He went to do a drugs deal but forgot his gun which he left in the back seat of the car, the other person shot him in the head and he slumped to the ground and the other man drove off with the drugs and the money, however the gunshot wound hadn't killed him and he staggered back to his car locked all the doors and put the key in the ignition, at this point he lost conciousness and died and that's why I'm sitting in my cell awaiting the electric chair.

He was shot somewhere else... dragged to the car... the car was opened with the one key... putting it in the ignition... the killer locked the car by the central locking system... just after he cleaned the shotgun and threw it in the back seat of the convertible.

no broken glass... no blood splatter... no bullet holes... one dead body... inside a locked convertible.

hmmm.. i can be a detective now

There is the much mentioned option of the car being a convertible, but nobody has actually said the murderer got away. The murderer could still be sitting in the back seat, having been shocked by his own behaviour to the point where he can't move.

You do realise that you can put the key in the ignition, use the central locking to lock all doors from inside the car, and get out thru one of the passenger doors?

The killer locked the door before he closed it. Thus baffling the police, and letting him get a clean getaway.
