THe better educated countries are also the ones with the least crime and highest population of Non-theists. You do the math.
America is not a highly educated country. We just have alot of money.

You know, I think the very way you phrased your question makes me think the presumption (the "if" part) is not quite true. It's not religion that is the main cause of hatred, war, and atrocity - it is human ambition that takes the mantle of religious power that is the main cause. I think you can see the difference.
And the answer to the "why" part - because religious leaders, as any leader throughout history, could persuade / bully / organise people to do what the leaders wanted, and those who went against the crowd... were trampled.

Religion doesn't cause the hatred in the world there were wars, hatred, violence and atrocities long before religion. and would still be. People just use religion to rally people. It is a tool for rulers to manipulate the people they need to do their dirty work. Patriotism causes the same thing.
America has the most deaths by violence by far the majority of these crimes aren't cause by religions. The crips don't kill blood because they are Christian do they?

It is usually the uneducated masses & Unsuccesful people who get carried away with Relegious Leaders.
Education teaches all of us to be Human, Live & Let others live. THe relegious preachers - Most of them are single man business establishment & as you have ups & downs in life every one looks at God, coz theres no one who does not have sorrows or bad time in life and then they look at Relegious Preachers, Mosques, Temples, Church & So on where they go and make these so called relegious leaders ( FRAUDS ) Moneyed people.
Fact is - Look into your self, realise what you are and how you can improve upon yourself. This is what all relegions too guide you. Read the Holy Quraan, Bible, Ramayan or any other Holy Book and it will guide you how.
So Best of Luck - Dont fall into this Prey.

Hatred, war and atrocity .... nowhere in religion or any religious book. Religion is being blamed for different cause/s. We follow a religious leader for his teachings. We learn less and surrender more. That is the reason we follow a religious leader in spite of being cause of hatred, war and atrocity.

Religion is merely used as a thin excuse by cowards who corrupt those that are niave or impressionable. Have you ever noticed that those that preach the most about sacrifice in God's name are actually the ones that are least likely to sacrifice themselves.
Every major religion preaches that to achieve eternity or enlightenment we must be respectful to ourselves, others and the world around us.
Has anybody ever told those bloodthirsty preachers that the so called unbelievers actually believe in the same God as them. My God goes by many names including Yahweh and Allah.

Because PEOPLE are the main cause of hatred, war and atrocity. Religion just gives them an excuse.

The religous people most likely to cause conflict are those with the authoritarian personality, people of this personality type are likely to have had strict, harsh parents (common in opressive areas of the world).
People with the authoritarian personality are intolerant of ambiguity and upholding of traditional views/values, both of which explain, to an extent, their zealous religous beliefs as religon gives an anwer to the questions siecnce may not have answered.
When two groups of such people have conflicting goals, war seems almost inevitable.

Improve your grammar, my friend. In case you don't study religion, religion is created when we collect our fear and turn it into a higher power, in the hopes of controlling those fears via worship. Extremely religious people (ex: Palestinians and Israelis, Nazis anf Jews, Christians and Muslims) do not see these crusades as "atrocities" as you put it, but as holy quests to spread the word of their God, and their fears.

I don't follow men I follow Jesus, it was Him and Him alone who called me to follow Him.. I was not taught religion as a child and my parents weren't religious either, so I had no idea what had happened when I felt the presence of god one day. I have no regrets for following Him. I choose to be in a church because that's the way Jesus prescribed for His people to do His work on earth.
