Employement as a doctor in the US is very hard because the doctor from the Philippines will have to undergo an expensive and tedious training before being employed in the US unlike a nurse where the process for employment is easy and not costly. Thus, Filipino doctors still study nursing just to be employed in America even when sacrificing their professions in exchange for money.

Actually the reason for this is that to be a licensed medical doctor overseas you still need to take the board exams there which means months of review which can be quite costly if you cannot work there and have to spend on board and lodging. It is far easier for them to go back to school to study nursing and get a way higher pay as a nurse overseas than as a doctor locally.

Ya....financial is only part of it....but the main part of it.
This reason attracts the doctors to be nurse....but the deterence is the liabilities of a doctor..........medical isurance against malpractice, surgical mistakes, wrong diagnoses, wrong treatment etc.
Being a nurse....you are in greater demand..........lighter working hours (I mean also less responsibilities...relatively speaking).........and paid very good salaries ( again relatively speaking in relations to liabilities).
The doctors who work as doctors....work like a doy....are paid a doggy package (realtively speaking)........ and be damned if they ever make a mistake......
.....some doctors had their asx grilled for even doing what is supposed to be their duties!
PS. I am neither a doctor nor a nurse.....just a busybody.

Yeah, it's still prestigious, but the fact is, the way of life in the Philippines is deteriorating. Too much politicking, graft & corruption, poverty, traffic, you name it.
