You have a point about the manslaughter issue, well a tenuous point because they don't encourage casual sex. But terrorists are called terrorists because they fill their victims with terror. Catholic missionaries leave people with a moral dilemma.
The problem in Africa is that a lot of the black population think that contraceptives were invented to keep the black population down. Lets hope the information age spreads to this continent the way AIDS has. My philosophy is, if I'm going to break the rules with casual sex, I'm definitely going to go one further and keep myself protected.

I work with immigrants and am friends with a large number of Americans who came here from South Sudan and Somalia. Most of them were converted to Christianity through missionaries in their homeland. I am an atheist, but curious as to what religion does for people, so I talk to my new American friends about it and this is what I've heard.
Most of them used to wonder why their children were dying of disease and hunger, but now they understand that this is God's way of punishing based on the Original Sin. They also feel personally responsible for the spread of AIDS although none of them truly understood the disease. This is God's punishment on them for not knowing God. Birth control is bad, it is against God's Plan. We were ordered by God to "go forth and multiply" so that's what we should do. If you have sex, there should be a baby come from it (says one man who has fathered 10 illegitimate children since being here). Condoms and other forms of birth control are a means of reducing the Black population...so they won't use them. And the reason children still die of disease and starvation back home is because too many people refuse to accept Jesus Christ as their Savior....
If that is not religious terrorism, then I don't know what is.
Sure, they build schools, but what are they teaching these people. More than 80% of the people I see through my work have not even completed primary school. Those who have gone to school came from large cities and were educated in the country they fled to while waiting to come here. Those who were in refugee camps, for the most part, were no better off than they were in their villages.

Judeo-Christian tradition has taught for thousands of years:
1. Single people should be celibate.
2. Married people should be faithful to each other (adultery is wrong).
3. Married couples should welcome God's gift of children and, therefore, artificial birth control was against the will of God.
If the world is going to ignore teachings about chastity (1 & 2), then why is the world so upset about teaching artificial birth control (3)?
People who are already ignoring the more important teachings about chastity (1 and 2) should have no problem ignoring the less important teaching of artificial birth control (3).
Even if an infected person was to use a condom to help protect his or her spouse, condoms are not 100% effective (read the box) and the spouse may be infected and die anyway. A person who truly loves their spouse would not endanger them in this way.
With love in Christ.

You miss the point if you were a true practising catholic you wouldn't need protection from sexual diseases any way so the condom is a non issue.
If you sleep around then you are not a practicing catholic and if so then what does it matter what catholics preach if you don't obey chastity and sex in marrage only.
Churches do not make new rules just to appease atheists. They may make rules that have nothing to do with the bible which is most of their faith but if you are an african sleeping around then why do you need the pope to tell you to put on a condom?

Because abstinence or monogomy is the only 100% sure way of avoiding sexually transmitted disease.
Condoms fail, depending on a number of different factors, 20% to 40% of the time.
Do a little research and you'll see that abstinence and monogomy in Uganda has reduced the spread of AIDS there, to a rate that is lower than anywhere else on the African continent.
This is one case where the proper religion truly can save someone from death.

Nobody should be preaching for them not to use condoms. Though it is now being said by some that much of the AIDS epidemic is owed to poor hygiene in hospitals there. There are those who aren't happy about this being said because they are afraid it will make people careless about using condoms and cause the problem to get worse.

I agree 100%. Instead of American dollars, (mine too) we should send birth control pills mixed up in the food, or just send condoms, or SOMETHING so they quit having poor little kids that are going to starve to death. I just don't understand... This has been going on for decades, and no contribution will fix it, A MAJOR FIX is the only way. They need to be sterile, except for a small percentage, we can do this. I think God put us Americans in charge, he's busy somewhere out there, beyond our conception. Think about it...Oh, and Catholics are so out of reality. They have joined the Pentecostals where depth of the soul is concerned.

I dunno, they should be! I truely think that diverse beliefs and religions should be encouraged but ONLY if they can move with the times and teach good morals with the modern day's backing.
Also, Catholic rules on contraception may kind of work in the West but in Africa having sex before marriage is widespread. One must remember that Africa had and still do have traditional religions that go far further back than when us Eurpoeans invaded, raped them of everything and forced our religion upon them.

no they bring life, bad lifestyle brings aids. Keep the good work going Catholic missionaries.
When these people die it is due to evolution and therefore only natural, when people are taught to live by their concience this would include sexual practice, if all the people took the church seriously in Africa their would be no Aids. To blame the good people for something that has happened is wrong.

Preaching and acting are really to different things.
People choose to have sex. So instead of blaming the church we not blame those actually involved. Do you honestly think that people in Africa don't know about Aids? If so you are not giving them any credit.
It is all about choice and accountability. Are we truly accountable for our actions or not? I say yes!
