I would like to know about becoming an airline pilot, I am 13 years old.?

I am 13 years old and i really have been interested in being an airline pilot all my life, i use simulators all the time, i can fly and am sure that i can become an airline pilot, i would just like to know what i need to do, i.e: what lessons to take at school, what i need to excel in, what happens after school, etc.

I'd advise that Maths and Physics are probably the most relevant subjects for you. I guess that you're in the UK so my next piece of advice is to join the Air Training Corps. The ATC is associated with the RAF but you will get free flying and gliding (yes FREE hands on too!) and the opportunity to apply for flying scholarships and the Air Navigation scholarship too. As well as all this you can do D of E, sport, BTECs, adventure training, Summer Camps in the UK AND overseas and lots more whilst making new friends. It will show an on going interest and is always a really good thing to put on your CV!

Consider the RAF too, Super_Star mentions Oxford University, i think she is talking about University Air Squadrons (which was my UAS!) which when you get to that point would be good for you too (more free flying which you get paid for!).

At 13 though you can join the ATC and get your first practical experience of flying!

The crazy thing is that you can get your private pilot's licence when you are 16 in many countries. That is the starting point, although it is fairly expensive. From there upgrade your licence to different aircraft, obtain night and instrument ratings and fly enough hours to do a commercial pilot's licence. Generally you will fly smaller craft but this will put you in a position to apply to an airline to fast track your pilot career by having in-house training courses to qualify for whatever aircraft are operated by the carrier. Of course the alternative is to apply directly to airline companies witout any qualification other than your school certificate. Generally you will not be successful this way unless you are very very fortunate! Good luck P.S. Do the ppl in a country like Namibia or RSA. The currency exchange will let you get the private pilot's licence for around 3000 British Pounds!

Convince yourself by going through all the schooling public airline pilots have to go through. This might just be a passing thing with you, so I'm not going to go through all the steps, but I can tell you this fairly fast. Don't get a police record, don't get a girlfriend that will get pregnant 'accidently' don't ever get a speeding ticket, don't ever do drugs, legal, or illegal, except aspirin, and take flying lessons at a local airport, so you get in flying hours. If you are really determined, then I support you 100%, but if you have any listed flaws in your future, you won't make it. I think you WILL MAKE IT. I wish you the best of luck in your flying life. There seem to be 3 main methods that I know of (and a few friends have followed):

1) Do your sciences at school, college, university and then apply to the major airlines to train as a pilot.

2) Pay for the training yourself via a private air instructor course - thousands of pounds (£) and takes several months to complete but then you'd need to get as much fly-time as possible in relevant aircraft to get to the level required by UK airlines - USA (and other nations - LDC's) aren't as strict about the level Of skills from their pilots .......... or as well paid!

3) Again, do all your sciences/maths at school, college (& Uni) and then join the RAF ........ they'll train you, even pay for you to go to Uni and you'll get to fly a variety of planes & jets but you'd have to stay with the RAF for a number of years after your training is complete and you could end up going to war (with all the associated risks).

You should be a very good student, especially in math and sciences. Some mediocre grades here and there isn't detrimental, but you should shoot to be valedictorian of your school. Commercial pilots must have very good records and must be very disciplined. Joining the air force is one way.

The R.A.F ... is the best, cheapest route into that. Not only that, you get to travel, the best training and live rent free.

Otherwise, if you can get into Oxford University when you do your A levels, you can do it there!

Best thing you can do at your age, is join a club like the RAF cadets, or put your town/city into google and see if there are any civilian flying clubs. Then if you find any, call them tell them about yourself and ask them what they have to offer.

Craig , dont be colour blind , i had similar hopes until i found out i was colour deficient.
1 in 10 men are affected by this condition
we cannot fly planes but we make good snipers which is nearly as cool
