Just import your AVI files in Windows Movie Maker (in XP) and do bit of editing if required. Once done, burn the VCD or DVD (depends on whether you have CD burner or DVD burner).
Put it in DVD player and you are good to go

Nero will convert the files. If you pick make DVD movie in Nero it will convert the files so that they will be playable on most DVD players. And by most I mean good DVD players not the ones for 39 dollars at Wallmart.

some players will play avi and other movie files. otherwise you will need to convert them to DVD. Nero has an option to do it.you will need a DVD burner for this. its under - make your own DVD movie
