I have a miniature schnauzer and she always gets bumps on her back. They aren't ticks. She has them all year round. I have her on Iams. I had her on an all natural dog food at one time. I have had her on Iams for over a year now. Does anyone know what is causing this?

I actually see this a lot on Schnauzers, I've heard it called "Schnauzer back". I don't know for sure what causes it, but one theory I've heard is that it happens with clipped schnauzers only and that stripping some of the back hairs will help. I haven't seen this in other breeds, but schnauzers normally get clipped shorter than other breeds so it might simply be ingrown hairs causing the problem.

I suggest contacting an experienced schnauzer breeder, or your local schnauzer club or the national schnauzer club http://amsc.us/ to see if they have any further information on this.

I got this from a forum. The guy described it the same way and this was the result.

"hi, your schnauzer has bumps cos when the groomer used the shaver that time. the shaver is too hot. this is because the groomer did not cool the shaver after a long use of it. therefore this will cause bumps on the body. think it will recover itself. dont worry much. if you need grooming next time, u can contact me"

It's probably a cyst. My english springer spaniel has them. I don't care for Iams too much. I'm a big fan of alpo. The vet can remove the cyst. It's not fatal or anything though, usually! If the vet says she's ok, then she is.
We're getting my dog's removed though.

Hard to say without seeing it. Could be allergies or cysts like previously suggested. You should probably have a vet look at her.

Try something that doesn't have any soy in it. I had the same problem with one of my dogs and discovered the only thing she can eat is Eukanuba.

our dog has one of those. the vet called it some kind of cyst. they took a sample of it and it was benign. guess we just have to live with it. he doesn't like it when someone touches it though, it must be sensitive.

Could be fungus too. Try a tar shampoo, that should get rid of most skin problems.

without seeing them firsthand , it is difficult to say , but they may be cysts . although it is probably nothing serious , i would take her to the vet as soon as possible anyway .

best of luck !
