I'm having exactly the same problem. Are you stressed in any area of your life or using a new hair product that may be causing this. Yes, stress can cause your hair to peel right out of your head if it goes unchecked for long periods of time. Does hairl loss run in your family and also consider how old you are as well? Hair can also fall out if you use chemicals, hair dye, hot combs and or braid your hair so tight that the scalp becomes swollen or inflamed. There are so many reasons why hair could be falling out. Another notorious cause is poor diet and not enough protein. If you can change most of these factors you'll find that your hair will start to grow stronger,

that's happened to me after i had both of my kids. With the last one it was so bad i was afraid i'd go bald, but i didn't! My doc told me it was because of lack of vitamins & such 'cause while you're pregnant you take vitamins daily. Also you're always going to lose more hair during the summer months because of the heat. Just like animals/dogs shed their fur when it's hot.Make sure before you shower you brush your hair thouroughly until you can run your fingers through & not have any hair come out, then while your in the shower try to get all the lose hairs out, & then when you get out of the shower remove any more lose hairs...that will help them from fall out into everything, as much, all day long

Most people loose between 500- 1000 hairs a week. It sounds a lot, but that figure is very small compared to how many hairs there are altogether on a persons head.
If you are worried about having alopeicia, don't be. Unless your hair is coming out by the handsful. By this I mean huge clumps of hair that leave a significant thin or bald patch behind.

Hello!
My answer is this. Right now as you speak about your hair falling out in clumps and masses, probably means that you have or are under a lot of stress during this time. NO OFFENSE!!! But, I would recommend that you continue to pull it back into a ponytail whenever you feel the urge, and also, at the top of the hair where your hairline is, somehow try to make tiny little braids and then form those braids into or weave them into the ponytail that you made. That hopefully should help!
Your Welcome and Good Luck!!!

its normal for @ least 100 or in your case with it being thick and all 200 strands a day to fall out .. if you hardly comb out your hair, and the day you do, all the hairs that should of came out, will come out with the other 200 strands.. The longer not combing your hair the more it will get you to worry... Try combing with a large toothed comb and condition it. And ease up on pulling from the pulling is making you think that just by touching it, it's coming out...

Are you on any medications? How is your diet? Stress levels? Are your periods regular?
There's also a condition that causes your hair to fall out, alopecia.
Check with a doctor if it's not your stress level or your diet or your hormones. Or maybe check with one even if it IS one of the above... they're helpful to get you back on track if it's stress or meds or hormones.
Some hair loss is normal, we lose about 50-100 hairs a day. But anything more than that, I'd talk to your doc.

It sounds like you may be experiencing something called Telogen Effluvium. I have been going through it for six months.
Here is some info
Telogen Effluvium
Excessive shedding of normal club hairs can be brought about by a number of stresses: parturition, febrile illness, psychological stress, crash diets, drugs. These factors may cause termination of the growing phase (anagen) of the hair follicles and transformation into the resting phase (telogen), causing a telogen fallout 2 to 4 months later. The normal average scalp has 100,000 hairs. Approximately 90% are in anagen, 10% in telogen. Normal average daily hair fallout is 100 hairs. With telogen effluvium, the anagen/telogen ratio may be shifted to 70% anagen, 30% telogen, with average daily shedding of 300 hairs. Treatment depends on determining the cause and correcting it.
Here is a great link for more info:

Are you pregnant? If not, I know that sometimes people just go through periods where their hair falls out. Are you stressed out?
