Not much else to add except that sometimes they seem to get along fine, will even lay together. Next thing I know they are rolling around on the floor growling, bitting, and hissing at one another. Seems like lately they have both been losing hair durning their fights.

Maybe they blame each other for the other having to be fixed... I have two that are spayed/neutered but they mostly play fight since they can't really do the other thing. I recently took in a male cat that I'm house sitting for and he loves to fight unfair... opens up his mouth and bites everything and everyone in sight.... but he's actually playing. Of course play can become fighting really quick if he doesn't know when to stop.

I have heard that same sex cats get along better than having one of each, I don't know. Has anything changed in their einvironment recently? Cats are very territorial and possessive of what they regard as rightfully theirs, including their people.

When I had two cats, both fixed females, they would exhibit this kind of behavour after one had been to the vet. The other cat would hiss, growl and if the message wasn't received, lash out. It was like she was afraid a vet visit was contagious, lol.

I would observe them for a while and see if you can't figure out the problem before paying money to a professional. There has to be a trigger mechanism if they get along at other times.

Honestly some cats will love each other to death, and others will hate each other and fight all the time. Sometimes it depends on if you have 2 cats of the same sex, they tend to fight more than one of each. It could be just a territorial thing. As long as they aren't physically injuring each other, all you can do is let them do what they want.

From my experience, cats seem to get more uptight and easy to anger when they're fixed. My unfixed cats are really mellow.
