Russian is definately more usefull than french... more people speak russian than do french... you said you already know english and spanish which are both indo european languages meaning you should be able to learn french reletively easily... also you should be able to learn german almost immediately as english has a romance language vocabulary with germanic grammar. however if you learn russian you should be able to communicate with whose who speak polish romanian ukrainian chezkoslovakian etc etc though with some difficulty here and there. they are all slovak languages and therefor are very similar like spanish to mexican to porgugese to puerto rican etc... not the same but similar enough to get you by in a pinch...
whereas french.... the only place to use that is in canada or france and the french will likely resent you for "BUTCHERING" their language. and will talk to you in english so they don't have to hear your bad french...
the russians are a lot more forgiving than the french in this respect. also the accent is easier to pick up than french.
not to mension you get to learn a new form of writing as the russian alphabet has different characters than the english one does... therefore it will be more fun and give you more fulfillment when you have finished.

I've seen quite a few unusual answers here! I'm French, and I don't think that French is easy to learn. However, you've already learnt Spanish, so you should be able to learn the main rules, and it's ok if you don't know all the irregularities for a while because, you know, a lot of French people (more and more, I'm afraid) are not able to speak French properly and can't write in French without making a mistake per sentence!!!
Not that many people can speak English in France (meaning that they can't have a conversation; being able to say: yes, no, right, left, up, down, what time is it... doesn't mean you can speak English!) so you would be able to speak to French people. We think it's cute when people speak with an English accent (if we can understand what you say, of course), above all if you talk to a person from the opposite sex!
French is spoken in France, Switzerland, Belgium, I think Luxembourg (but am not sure), Canada, and in a lot of African countries.
Basically, what it all comes down to is why you want to learn another language! Don't know anything about Russian, so can't help you on that one. But maybe you can check on the Internet info about both countries and see which one you're the most interested in visiting. Because learning another language is also about learning another culture.

Since you are bi-lingual in English and Spanish French would be the easier to learn of Russian and French.
To give you an idea of the difficulty in learning relative to the languages, say that you are a native English speaker and want you want to study Spanish, French, Russian, or Japanese.
You put equal effort into the study of the language you choose.
The level of ability that you would achieve in each language
would be the same
after six months of Spanish study
one year of French study
two years of Russian study
five years of Japanese study.
The first hurdle for Russian is learning the Cyrrilic alphabet, but as it is an alphabet, that's not a large hurdle.
You seem to just like learning languages, so if it's kind of a hobby with you, then I'd say it depends on how well you persevere. You will feel the reward of achieving power in the French language faster than you will with Russian. If, like me, you are a sprinter, then French would be your best choice. If you are plugger--willing to plod on--then, though the feeling of competency will come more slowly, you will have that extra sense of having earned your stripes.
If you are thinking of going into languages for a career, or using them in a career, and you have a good aptitutude for languages, then if it was me, I'd start with French. You'd have two important Romance languages under your belt, and then I'd tackle Russian.
If you are in high school, then I'd also take etymology (and study it seriously, even if the rest of the class is taking it for an easy A), and Latin.
You might have the makings of a linguist. And if your school is one which lets you take college courses you might even want to go into Linguistics 101.
I love languages, too. Happy learning, and as they say in Japanese "Gambatte!" (Give it your best).

French easy to learn?
Well... I won't comment on that. I'm French Canadian btw so, don't try to be a smartass on the French language topic :p
ANd to answer the question: French has always been known as the romantic language... But that doesn't matter really. This is a matter of preferences. Both languages has its good and bad sides.
Verbs in French are hell to learn whereas Russian written language looks like hell... So... *shrug* it's all depending on how deep you want to learn the language.

I would recommend french coz it is being used almost all over Europe whereas Russian is not that much popular. As french is Latin oriented, it will be easy for you to learn french than Russian. Whenever you search for a job, the main think what they panel wants is that can you understand a foreign language which is not your mother tongue that too french.

are you canadian? because if you are you should learn french. it's so sad how french is one of canada's national language yet over 80% of the people that lives on the westcoast does not speak it. me living in vancouver would know that not a lot of people speak french, a lot of people don't really even speak english! and besides the frenchies and québeckers are so slack and amazing, it would be awesome being able to communicate and connect with them. russians are cool too though, mais je pense que la francais est la meilleure langue!
