For example: My boss, Peter, uses perhaps the best deoderant in the world called Mitchum's. I go to say that it probably burns the pores shut, but I know that there is a better word. Can someone help me out?

Cauterisation (to cauterise) is a heat sealing method used in surgery on the edges of wounds to seal them off, but not sure thats the right answer for your particular question as would be a little painful without anaesthetic

Cauterization. It is still used in surgery today. They use lasers etc to seal up blood vessels and hence stop bleeding.
