It is an addiction. If you have ever known a real alcoholic it is a frightening experience to witness them going through withdrawal and DTs. The definition of disease is " a condition of the living animal or plant body or of one of its parts that impairs normal functioning and is typically manifested by distinguishing signs and symptoms". If you can not function without a drink sounds like a disease to me!

Drinking isn't a disease, alcoholism is. Alcoholism isn't a habit, it is an addiction. Some people have an addictive personality, they may stop drinking but then they will replace it with another addiction.

It is an addiction, not a habit. Alcoholism is a disease and causes other diseases like cirrhosis of the liver.

my partner is alcohol dependant, i look at it as an illness not a disease. its very sad to watch him try and fight the habit and im sure he will end up with a disease of the liver. he had blood tests last week and we are waiting for the results.

It's not a disease...it's just an addiction. I think it was AA who started calling it a disease.

The above checklist is sturdy, yet i could upload "selflessness"to it. you need to be keen to allow your mate to be thierself except this is damaging to the relationship. Faithfulness is likewise paramount. Infidelity, in any form, is damaging.

because when they call it a disease they are rationalizing the problem.. it is like saying it is not their fault.
